    Couldn't Help Myself

Getting the itch to do some longer range shooting. Just snagged a Weatherby S2 RC-V from Buds for a really good price. Do we have any Weatherby shooters on Calguns, or is everyone sporting 700s and Savages here?

I thank that is a Howa action. Supposed to be smooth. Nice rifle, let us know how it shoots. How much?

$675. Seems to be a good price considering the MSRP.

Now the real painful part comes... Choosing the damn optic.

Howa action and barrel. Excellent shooters. I have one in 257Weatherby. Taken pronghorn at 600+ yards. I only hunt with mine and fun target shoot.

No savage here. So far Remchester and Mark-X. Weatherbys have been good shooters, I've shot a couple and one particular 340 Weatherby just too painful to shoot.

Nice, looks good. Those actions feel great.

What caliber did you get the rifle in?

.308. Would've liked to move up to a 300 WM, but that wasn't offered.

Hopefully the HST line from Vortex goes on sale somewhere.

I picked up a vanguard classic ii in 7mm rem mag. Shoots great. I sent it back to weatherby for a accu break and now it's even more fun at the range. I just put the thread protector on when I go hunting. Mine is very accurate.

Still waiting for Buds to ship the rifle. I snagged a Vortex Viper HS LR 4-14x44 from Cabelas since they were on sale. Now for the base and rings.

                        I have a Mk5 deluxe lazermark in 300 Wby
A Mk5 custom shop safari in 338-378 Wby
                        And a Mk5 Alaskan in 340 Wby

The 300 and the 340 are safe queens these days but the 338-378 is my long range go-to for antelope out here, not uncommon for 800-1000 yard shots and I've taken them even further with it.
I've yet to find the distance limit on the round, it will easily hang with any 338 Lapua and exceed it by a few hundred fps with the same bullets (300 smk is what I use).

The "RC-V" (varmint) isn't available in 300 WM, but the regular "RC" is available in 300 Win Mag or 300 Weatherby Mag.
