Can you register heavily modified Rem 700s in CA

I'm sure this topic is covered somewhere in this forum
but I'm having a problem finding it. I know that I can
purchase a Remington 700 and modify it to my
    liking. However, can I purchase a pre-modified 700 and
have it shipped to and registered in CA? For instance,
can I buy any the of GAP 700s and register it here?

    Thanks in advance. - T

Please consult the assault weapons flowchart at the top of this page. It has the answer youre looking for.

Short answer, yes. Bolt guns are not covered under KA's AWB. You do still have to follow the feds min barrel of 16" and the overall length, of which I cannot recall.

OP is talking about a bolt action rifle.

          Yes.
It's no different than any other bolt action rifle as far as laws are concerned.
It just has to ship to an FFL in California who will do the paperwork to transfer it to you.

26" OAL for fed SBR, not subject to the CA 30" for AWs. Hard to get a bolt rifle less than 26", not one that I'd be interest in.

it is pointless to point the OP to a semi-auto flowchart that doesn't mention one word about bolt-action rifles and then tell him the answer is there.

now, the previous version of the chart that Redhorse released with some additional questions I suggested he add made the semi-auto flowchart a complete "rifle legality" flowchart that did cover bolt-action rifles, but unfortunately during the last revision by a 3rd party, they threw out the latest revision and went back to an older version for some reason.

Do you want an AOW or C&R SBS/SBR in CA?

Look in the dictionary under "sheep".

"Heavily modified" can mean a lot. If it's some kind conversion rifle like a Pedersen Device then most likely not. I know you said for instance a GAP 700 but you didn't say for sure a GAP 700.
