Savage Axis II vs. Trophy Hunter XP in .308

I am looking for first bolt action .308 for bench shooting and probably hog hunting with co-workers (never hunt before). Pretty much set my eyes on either Savage Axis II or Savage Trophy Hunter XP. They both have accutriggers

    1. Would it worth it to get Trophy over Axis for about $130 more? I know it has Nikon scope vs. Weaver scope on Axis II. 1:10 vs 1:12 on Axis.

    2. Right now at Turner, the Trophy is $510. Will it lower around black friday?

Right now rebates are $70 vs. $50 on both ends on Nov 30

I bought the Axis II at turners fall sale. I was in the same boat as you as far as trying to decide on the Axis or Trophy... I went with the Axis for the price. I have a budget and that extra $150 can buy a lot of ammo. I walked out the door paying $431 for the Axis II.
Haven't gotten to try it out yet since all the ranges in my area are closed due to fire danger. Cant wait tho...

I just shot my axis II .223 for the first time last weekend. It was very accurate after I got it sighted in and so far I love it. The weaver scope leaves a little too be desired though.

I purchased the Trophy from Turners because I had the budget. Its accurate for hunting and I did like the Nikon with BDC reticle. I guess it all comes down to your budget.

Does .308 recoil is too much for a small guy build 5'3, 120 lbs ? I have AR15 but this is .308.

You will get used to it... If it hurts the shoulder too much you could look into a recoil pad like this one...

most of my friends are around the same size as you and they shoot anything they can get their hands on from .22lr to 30.06, etc... They all love to hunt so they mostly fire the larger calibers.

I'd get the trophy if it has 1:10 twist.. The non-leaded bullets are longer than lead bullets and need a faster twist to stabilize... The 1:10 twist will still stabilize lead 150 gr ,168 gr and 180gr bullets ,,, and probably lead 125 gr varmit bullets... My remington 700 308 varmit will,, and i believe its 1:10... (But have never cked it... Duh).... It shoots nosler e-tip 150 gr and 168gr non-leaded bullets lights out ....Cheers...

Dros Trophy 11 at Turner on Monday. Will be picking up on next Thursday.

What the different between 11 vs 111? Based on my research, 11 is short action and 111 is long action? Am I right?

Mostly, people talking about 111, but I bought one at Turner, it was 11, not 111

                    Yes, the Model 10 series (10, 11, 12, 14, 16) is short-action, and the 110 series (111, 116, etc.) is all long-action.

The Axis will take game; there can be no question about that. But for the money, I'd go for the Trophy Hunter XP package.

Picked the Savage 11 yesterday. Does Nikon come with the cover? I don't see them on mine.

My 111 Trophy Hunter XP didn't... But it did come with a rock hard butt pad! I think they recycled a hockey puck.

That's weird that it came with scope but no covers.

My Trophy XP 11 came with rubber recoil pad. I like it. Heading the range next Friday to zero in. Hopefully the pad helps with the recoil .

The rifle factory preset trigger pull around 3.5 lbs so I did no adjustment.

The Axis is entry level and always will be, the Hunter is a better rifle and is the standard for Savage, Neither are the best choice. Yes I own one Savage and it will be the only one.
