    91/30 vs Carbine

I own a Mosin Nagant 91/30 and that thing is really loud. A friend said his M38 is a lot louder than full length ones. I've never been around mosin carbines so how would you compare the loudness of 91/30s to M44s/M38s?

M44s are a bit louder. If you're wearing earpro and/or shooting outdoors you don't really notice.

The fireball is much more telling.
So I was driving home from the range and I noticed that the scent of warm steel, burnt gunpowder and lukewarm coffee combined and smelled oddly of... Peanut butter?! Man, the Hoppe's is going to my head.

I can say that I doubt I'd notice much difference in sound if I shot either side by side without earpro

Anyway OP, It's been sometime since I've shot a 91/30, I bought both an M38 and 91/30 at the same time years ago, sold the 91/30 (run of the mill) shortly after as I much preferred the carbine. I guess mosinitis never set in for me, one was enough.

Yeah the fireball for sure, especially at dusk, that and the concussive shockwave...

      The carbines are fun

          I haven't shot a 91/30 yet but I really love my M38.

Whenever I shoot my M44, people next to me at the range stop and look to see what it was. That usually never happens with a 91/30. Definitely more of a blast/concussion with the carbine.

I saw a Mosin Nagant AirSoft gizmo. That shouldn't be too bad.

i own many mosins and to me the carbine is more fun to shoot. after shooting a carbine the long rifle just seems tamer. I even like the muzzle blast sound better.

                      How true!
My weight-lifting son (who is his mid-20's) shoots one clip from my Steyr and hands it back to me; "Dad I'm done, I'll shoot something else"

Neither my 91-30 or the M44 is not that bad

my shiny barreled M-44 seemed louder than my very dull barreled M-38, and the 44 seemed to kick harder even though it was heavier.

I'm guessing enough gas was escaping from the 38 to make it less of a single sharp crack.

M-30 about in between in barrel condition and report, but longer length w/bayonet seemed help especially shooting off hand with sighting and steadiness.
Am I a good shot!?!, YEAH I'M A GOOD SHOT!....i just got bad aim
