    Barreled action wiggle in stock

Hey guys. Just installed a new bull barrel and a choate tactical stock on my savage 11. I noticed that now the barreled action wiggles a bit with slight pressure on the barrel. The action screws are tight, but there is noticeable wiggle on the rear of the action within the stock. Any suggestions? I have read that the choate stock doesn't doesn't need to be bedding because of the aluminum V cut or whatever it is. But does this seem like a bedding issue or something else? The barrel can be pushed to the side on the inside of the stock and it doesn't spring back or anything. It kinda kicks the rear of the action to the side. I checked clearance for the recoil lug, checked for high spots in the stock and can't figure anything out

Something doesnt sound right. Contact choate should be your first option. It has a full length aluminum bedding so while it shouldnt need a skim bed it might have to for your specific action. Secondly i have never seen anyone else with a SAVAGE complain about the choate tactical stock except for the trigger area needing to be recessed to allow for the bottom bolt release to sit flush aside from complaints about the palm swell and weight. If this is what you have did you recess that area? It may be teetering on that point. Third tight isnt a torque setting. What is your measurable torque setting on the action screws.

Rear action screw sounds too long.

I have always had to grind down the action screws a small amount to be able to get a proper torque setting without binding the bolt. Once torqued down properly there should be zero movement. It is also possible that you ordered or got a stock for the wrong model rifle. I've done that too after a really long day.

Ha well looks like i will be trying to cut down the action screws. It's the right stock. Lol spent lots of time looking at it online while I was deployed haha.

Trim a little at a time and make sure you have a nut on the screw above the portion youre cutting so you can clean the threads when you back the nut off.

Remove the barrelled action and bottom metal from the stock.
Install suspect action screws through bottom metal and into receiver and tighten until they stop.
Measure length between underside of bottom metal and receiver.
Measure length of pillar in stock.
                  Note the difference in lengths.
Adjust screw length as needed so that the screw is NOT bottoming out in the receiver before the bottom metal and receiver are tight against the stock.

Ha. Well. Trying to find some new action screws. Apparently I got a bit rambunctious with my trimming. Too short now. Kickin myself in the butt for that one haha

I told you to trim a little at a time! I had to order my action screws online because none of my local stores had the right screw. Not even really long ones to trim nada.

Haha. Yeah I didn't think I was trimming that much but apparently there wasn't a whole bunch that needed trimming

When I trimmed mine I used a file. Not much needed to come off. I know it's late now but in case you or anyone else needs to do this I thought I'd throw out this suggestion.

I'm not sure what length exactly. I'm probably going to look for like a 2 3/4 or 3 or so and trim it.
