If you're looking to throw heaps of money at a gun, Browning makes a kickass lever action gun, the BLR. Comes in most modern calibers (.308, 300 WM/WSM, etc) so can be used to hunt. The Dude has the takedown version in 300WSM and, although it kicks like a mule (it's the light version), its pretty freaking slick.

If you're looking to just play around however I really enjoy the Henry Goldenboy. It's the 22LR but is plain fun to shoot. I haven't tried the Bigboy yet but do love the looks of the ones I've seen.

I went with Marlin because it throws hot brass out the side. When shooting a top eject I did not enjoy the rain of hot brass bouncing off my hat or going down my shirt.

Were I to find one & able to afford it, I'd buy an original Winchester Model 71.

After the better part of 1000 rounds through my Rossi R92 I have never had any brass go down my shirt or hit my head.

Ejects up and to the right quite nicely.
So I was driving home from the range and I noticed that the scent of warm steel, burnt gunpowder and lukewarm coffee combined and smelled oddly of... Peanut butter?! Man, the Hoppe's is going to my head.

Take half of a binocular, tape it to your rifle.

My Rossi was great at hitting me square in the forhead with brass.
