    Ruger american predator

Who else bought one? Seems like only a handful of people have and so far not many reviews. I picked one up the other day that sat at my LGS for a couple weeks when i saw it first. It honestly was not my first pick but it grew on me. Mine is chambered in 6.5 creedmoor.

I'm thinking really hard about getting one in .308, with the shortest possible barrel they make, and putting a low magnification scope on it for a truck rifle. Been thinking about it for a few days, and I'm almost certain I'm going to do it in the moderately near future...especially after reading the latest American Rifleman article on them.

I had the same issues trying to purchase a weatherby vanguard s2 in the same caliber. The ones i came across sold faster than i could call. I debates getting the much more expensive savage 12lrp, savage 10 predator max1 or the same cost 11 th xp but already knowing the stock on the same cost savage would be junk and wanting to keep this a low budget rifle i opted for the ruger finally.

On second look the barrel profile and stock seemed a lot more sturdy than i originally thought and the barrel was thicker too. I cant wait to put some rounds through it.

OP, please be sure to post a range report. I'm currently considering your rifle or a Savage 11 Trophy Predator Hunter in 6.5CM

Why only those two in 6.5cm?

For the same price as the vanguard s2 in 6.5cm you get a much better platform than both.

For the price of the ruger though you cant beat it. From what ive read it has a thicker barrel than the regular american. I didnt do a comparison in store but i have no doubts itll be a shooter. It has a small action bedding block.

Heck - the regular RAR is a shooter, per the various reviews I've read. Also, according to the Ruger website, the Predator model (.308) weighs in at 6.25 lbs. versus 6.12 lbs. for the standard Ruger American (.308). So only a negligible increase in weight.

Also just saw Ruger has a new model of American rifle - the "Ranch" version which is chambered in either 5.56NATO or 300BLK, and sports a short barrel (16"). Looks like that one would be a good one.

Looks like my Tikka. I kinda want the Ranch though.

I handled one it is a pound or so heavier than the regular Ruger American.

Has a heavy medium barrel. Would not call it a true bull barrel.

The .308 with the 18" barrel would make a good pig gun / deer gun

You want me to post a link to the magazine sitting on the windowsill next to my toilet?

Lol might get in trouble with that one. I thought maybe there might be an electronic copy online of the article that some publications tend to do.

Initially I didn't realize Weatherby had an option in 6.5CM. Looking at the specs, it seems like all three have similar barrel contours and same twist- I like the Ruger being threaded. Savage is the shortest but heaviest, Ruger a bit longer and lightest. Savage comes with Nikon scope, Ruger comes with mount, Weatherby no mount. Not a deal breaker to me but Savage and Ruger have DBM and Weatherby is hinged. I do like that Weatherby has a 1 MOA guarantee and is based locally. It would be nice to get a side x side range comparison on all three cuz I'm really liking all three options.

Weatherby also has a dbm you just gotta pay for it and it also takes the howa dbm too. I understand though at not wanting to pay for extra stuff that others already come with
