Does anyone have a Howa Dickson Golden Bear/early Weatherby Vanguard rifle in a magnum caliber? These are almost Sako copies. I have a 7 Mag that is missing a bolt, and have been unsuccessful finding one. It looks possible to fit a Sako L61R bolt, but need detailed pictures and dimensions of the bolt.
Pulled the barrel from the Weatherby/Howa and compared to Sako. The bolt nose and barrel counter bore on the Vanguard are quite different from the Sako, while the rest of the bolt is very similar. Tenon threads are different too. The early Dickson Howa has the same thread as a new Howa 1500 (26m X 2.6) while the Sako is 26m X 1.6. Sakos have a flat breech similar to a push feed Win M70 or Savage M10, while the Howa has a Remington style counter bore.
Does anyone here have one of these rifles in a magnum caliber, and would you be willing to send some detailed pictures of the bolt? It is very possible to fit a Sako bolt, which is available.
Thanks
Ken
