Post a picture of what you have, then tell us what you want to use it for.

I thought this was a troll thread, but the fact it was posted initially in the wrong forum, makes me think it may be legit.

Yeah, you need more details including model, cartridge, purpose.

In any event, you will almost certainly want to replace the stock and trigger no matter what your purpose is. The factory barrel should be sufficient to keep since it sounds like you are just starting.

OP, this is but one of probably hundreds of websites dedicated to the topic of upgrades and mods to the 700.

OP, it's a great rifle. As stated there are many things that can be done with the platform depending on what you plan to use it for. Please provide more information.

I have several and as stated above the sky is the limit if you want to trick it out, I paired mine with great scopes and triggers.

Depends on what you already have and your budget. Hard to tell with the very little information you have provided.

i agree once you tell us what you want to do with it then guys can give you pointers.

my hunting rifles of choice in rem 700

.270 win with H&S stock 2 lbs timney trigger and 3x10 scope

                  my larger game rifle
.300 win mag with H&S stock 2.5 lbs timney trigger and 3.5x18 scope

                  my varmint rifle of choice
Coyote and most long shots for fun .220 swift BB with H&S stock, 2 lbs timney trigger 4.5x14 scope

                  prairie dog gun
.223 BB H&S stock, old style factory trigger dialed down to 2.5 lbs, 4x14 scope

back seat beater is a ruger sporter stainless m77
.223, 3x9 scope, laminated stock .... why because it was ridiculously cheap otherwise it’d be model 700.

if i get around to it i intend to build a swift in a rem 700 sporter using a stainless action and a custom barrel just to have a lighter high velocity gun.... that or i’ll do a 204 but i like having multiple rifles in the same caliber more versatility...

there you go the whole spectrum now tell us what you want to do. lots of options and opinions each of us chooses what we like my buddy is a weather by and limber fan. his pocket book is deeper than mine. as it stands my guns shoot better than i can hold them. as to cost i spent the money on my two hunting rifles as to my short actions. shopping is your friend guys are always swapping out parts on short actions. watch out of rogue stocks, they are heavier than the alternatives. i prefer the ammonium block stocks over pillar or glass bedded

I like the larger top on the 700 over some other models, it allows top loading when in the field chasing an animal. i also like the ability to drop the lower plate on a BDL and unload without having to cycle through the action. i like the old tang safety on rulers better than the rumination safety but will take the current rumination safety after a timney upgrade over other manufacturers. overall its just a platform, its good enough to do most jobs you want precision look custom but for out of the box affordable with mild upgrades pretty darn good.... its a contender

but since you told us nothing what i just gurgitated out means little other than boasting

Personally, I would do my best to use this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/.22_Long_Rifle

But I don't think that's going to work.

We need more specs on your rifle to give you truly useful advice.

                        I have a 40+ year-old BDL in .270 Win. It'll still shoot under MOA.

For the price, it's a hard rifle to beat.

I recently purchased a 700 Varmint SPS in .243 as my first rifle and can say that they are super accurate out of the box. I'm a new shooter and, with no modifications, I'm shooting sub-MOA at 100-200y. We're actually taking it hunting for two weeks and I'm stoked, it'll be my first hunt. This caliber was made for varmints but I can get pigs and small deer with good shots, and this rifle is accurate enough bone stock that I feel confident.
