Ammo is available, and I'm sure someone could special order one in 9mm smoothbore for you - you could be the only kid on the block with one!

I think as long as you understand the limitations of the cartridge, it could be a useful critter getter (little bitty critters).

The chiappa has an 18.5" barrel for the 9 flobert, with an OAL of 33". It would be legal in CA.

Not really, I had to glance at it a couple of times myself. It's a poor layout for a chart. Annoyingly enough, the lack of information on that page doesn't even explain much in the way of details. Like the twist rate for the rifled versions, whether or not the 18.5" .22lr is closer to the 16" version(being rifled) than the 9 flobert(is it even a smoothbore?), etc. It's not like they don't have room on the page for that info so people aren't stuck having to call.

Those chamber adapters(at least 3 or 4 vendors sell various sets), and that rifle design have existed long before chiappa decided to bundle them together.
