I have a fixed 12x SWFA mil/mil scope on my 700P in .223. You can't go wrong their fixed scopes for the money.

I personally don't find zoom of 1-8x to be useful for much, so I opt for a fixed 10 or 12x for any of my "budget builds"...

Funny you say that 1-8 power isn't good for you with a .223. You should go ask some service members (ok, Marines) what they use to qualify at 500 yards with. Most of these men and women never shot rifle before they joined. Not saying anything bad about higher magnification, but a 4x scope can be plenty effective with the right practice.

Will do. All my impressions of it so far are positive. I'm hoping that I have solved my issue and that I can put the scope to good use soon.

Once I have the $$$ I'll buy the nice scope for this rifle and put the PA scope on my AR that currently has a Nikon 3-9.

The main use of the rifle is range work out to 300yds at SBRGC. Also shooting out at the desert BLM land. I also want to use it in the future for hog hunting.

I'm really hoping to see groups of 1" or less at 100yds so I can enjoy shooting at 300yds.
1" groups might be achievable. It depends on the rifle and if you find a good load for it. You might want to consider reloading. Makes a huge difference if you can tune a load to your rifle. Plus, if you shoot a lot and want "match" ammo, its A LOT cheaper to do it via reloading. Overtime the cost of the equipment to reload is offset.

If you go this route, use the higher BC type bullets like the SMK 168 or 175s, the Berger VLDs, The Hornady A-Maxs, etc. These will give you good wind bucking capability. I know its only 300 yards, but once you get a taste for the long range, you only keep moving up from there.

The Bushnell HDMR 3.5x21x is indeed a FFP, mil/mil config so it suits all your needs. I know a lot of guys shooting this and guys shooting pratical precision bolt rifle stuff are using this with success. IMO, its one of the best scopes for the price range.

10x or 12x fixed is good if you're doing more prone target shooting at targets at distance. For target acquisition at multiple distances, say 100-600 yards, this can hurt you, especially if the targets are tiny, hard to see, and you need a wider field of view to get your bearings. I find myself always powering down to 4-8x power first to acquire a target, and then spin the scope to a higher magnification.

I suspect this will take care of the matter. However, take a breath in and exhale. Dry fire the rifle while looking through the reticle. Does the reticle remain on target once the trigger breaks? If not, you could be jerking the rifle.

I took the rifle out today and had much better results!

My best group at 100yds was 3 rounds touching (about 3/4").

Here is a picture of the 200yd target. 11 rounds at about 3".

I think the 3" can get smaller for sure if I practice more on breathing techniques as recommended and also practice more. Overall, I am now happy with the rifles capabilities.

For what it's worth, it shoots the ZQI ammo from Walmart really poorly. 2" to 3" groups at 100yds. A friend made up some hunting rounds for me and those did a little over 1" at 100yds. The best groups we're all with FGMM 175grn Sierra Match King.

Next it's time to save up for reloading equipment.

                      This.

You want to be surprised when this trigger breaks.

Obviously this doesn't apply as much to people who shoot a lot and know their firearms well, but the technique remains a good one for those who may be jerking.

Glad it worked out, just put one in jail, a touch over $600 out the door.

MVP's are notorious for coming from the factory with loose screws. Once everything is snugged up, they're fine shooters.
