    The only comparison is that there is no comparison. The 700 is day and night a better rifle.

    For rifle cartridges, as it sounds like you are new to shooting, I'd recommend sticking with .223 Remington or .308 Winchester, which are extremely common, abundant, and easy to shoot. Alternatively, consider learning with a .22lr, which would indicate a rifle other than the aforementioned Remingtons.

          +1 for the 700 and call it a day. The rest on weather you want a Varmint contoured barrel or the pencil stick barrel all depends on what you are using it for.
