    Weatherby Vanguard S2 30-06

My trusty hog hunting rifle, very accuracy and reliable. only thing I dislike is the 24" long barrel. For my usage I really want to cut it to 22". Do us guys think it is a good idea?

Please recommend a good gunsmith who can do professional Cut & Recrown works, thanks a lot guys!

What is cutting 2" off the barrel going to gain you? Your rifle falls into my classification of a "tack driver", are you sure you want to mess with it?

Greater maneuverability. I use an entirely separate rifle when hunting very thick cover where a longer rifle becomes a hindrance. The OP may want to look at 20" or even another rifle if he wants something short and tight. ie: a Marlin 335, or other lever action.

If it was a 308win I think I will cut barrel to 20", but for 30-06 I think 22" is shortest I like.

You won't notice any difference whacking off those 2" as in maneuverability. you'll lose approx. 50-60 fps but that's no problem at all, and if you resale your gonna take another big cut on net worth.

Don't cut it....06 really can use the 24".

If you want a short barrel, get something that likes a short barrel....like a 308/243/350 rem mag/30-30/45-70.

30-06 really benefits from a full barrel, it is not a short barrel round in any way, shape, or form.
But...go ahead and have Randall fuxor it, just remember who toldya so.

                        Why 22"? Why not 23"?

That Weatherby looks like a fantastic shooter, why mess with it?
