It's an investment but when you think about it, it's a brilliant design that allows for so many different calibers with just one chassis and one optic!!!

I'm saving to get the .300 WM conversion kit, which should be around $1,900 for the whole kit (new bolt & mag needed unfortunately). Once I have both the SA & LA kit, a new barrel usually is around $1,200 to $1,500 depending on length and caliber.

Impossible to find a sub MOA rifle with a high end optic for that price ah!

wow, those DTA barrel extensions are expensive!
Bartlein barrel blanks run around $350.
Gunsmithing to fit an extension to a barrel, contour, chamber and crown is around $300.
That means the barrel extensions must be like $500+

Barrel, sight and trigger work on most pistols and shotguns.
        Most work performed while-you-wait.

DT only uses premium barrels and you pay for their proprietary swappable design... Still better than owning 4 rifles with 4 optics

Can't you reuse the barrel extension?

Cool idea but way too rich for my blood.

Call Mark at Short Action Customs. You can get a Bartlein or whatever you want, ready to roll for less than $1200. That's just nuts. I'd rather have a Proof carbon barrel at $800 than a mystery DTA barrel.

Based on this link DTA extension only runs for $280

They use Walther Stainless Steel Barrels and replacement barrels range from $1,139.25 to $1,375.00.

Bolts are ~$350 and mags are ~$100 so in a $1,400 conversion kit, the barrel is ~$670 (no counting the barrel extension).

                    My argument is the following...

                    > $3,086.00 for a chassis
                    + $1,390 for a .308 or .260 REM conversion kit
                    + $2,9000 for a scope (let's say a Kahles K624i)
                    ------------
                    $7,376
+ $1,500 for .300WM conversion kit (incl. new bolt and new mag)
+ $1,500 for .338LM barrel (uses the same bolt and mag as .300WM)
                    ========
$10,376 for basically 3 different platforms.

                    Versus the cost of:
                    > Surgeon or AI .308 + $2,900 scope = $7,000
                    > Surgeon or AI .300WM + $2,900 scope = $9,000
                    > Surgeon or AI .338LM + $2,900 scope = $10,000

Even if you get a custom rifle at around $2,000 (doubtful) + $2,900 scope, you still have to spend close to $15,000 for a set of three. Then you have to haul them to the range where I can carry one and bring two barrels

Oh, I guess a bartlein barrel blank would not be good enough then.

Walther barrel blanks are cheaper than Bartlein.

I hear you and often people don't order their new barrels from DT

Randall you should start chambering DTA barrels
