Rem 700 bottom metal

Why is it so hard to get a BDL bottom metal for rem 700? And why does it cost so much? I can get one new for $90 from Brownels and yet used ones if you find them are nearly the same price. Can't get the stock I want unless I convert to BDL, but seems like a lot of money for a piece of cast aluminum. Rant over.

Never had a problem.
Running a PT&G aluminum billet bottom metal on one of my 700's.
It's much nicer than the stock stuff.

Could be the difference between the cheaper, more easily damaged aluminum and the quality made steel products which generally hold up better over the years and take more abuse. I have always opted to replace the aluminum bottom metal and trigger guards for those made of steel but, that's just me.

Thorax, I agree, why buy factory when u can get an upgrade at the same price. Gundog, I understand, but I want aluminum for weight, hunting rifle. So you have any old aluminum ones kickin around u want to get rid of?

Go hit that link I posted, they make steel, stainless, and aluminum.
I can't swear to it, but they have about the best prices I've seen out there.

Also try Pierce engineering...they do good stuff too...worth a shot.

I have several short action remington 700 BDL bottom metal setups with 308 magazine boxes, followers, springs and screws that I can sell for $40 each.

The PTG bottom metal for AICS detatchable magazines are typically around $75 (on sale) to $129 (regular price).
They are equal in quality to the $300 badger.
They do not include a magazine so you have to add about $75 more for that.
I charge $75 to inlet a stock for badger bottom metal.
Most other types of AICS compatible bottom metal including PTG will follow the Badger pattern as seen here:

PTG long action 700BDL hinged floorplate style.
HS Precision stock, no inletting required, cannot vouch for other stock brands but I'm willing to bet it fits just as well.
Easily clears a stock 700 original style trigger, the XM pro trigger, and as seen here a Jewell trigger.

Much nicer than stock Remmy stuff....

Indeed Thorax that is what I am after. Will be getting B&C medalist sporter stock though, it is lighter so easier to carry. Of course it also means it will kick more. Probably will get the The aluminum version of that unless Randall finds a LA bottom metal he can let go for same price, ha
