    Rossi 92 16" Carbine .357 blued

So I have been looking for one of these for a while, love my 20". I stopped into my Local Big 5, next door to the pet store where I buy my dog food and they had the 20" on sale. I said I already have the 20", I want a 16", manager said give your phone number and I will look for one. Sure enough, he called back and found one in Utah. Four days later I started DROS, price OTD, incl DROS and tax, $532. Big 5 rocks in my world today.

Not a bad price at all when you look at what they are going for on GB. I'm guessing your 20" is a round barrel?

That's a great price and an awesome little gun. Get the Steves gunz videos if you haven't already.

My wife surprised me with one for our anniversary. It's become my new tractor gun.
I plan to get rid of the safety and add a peep sight.

Yep my 20" is a round barrel. My 20 is so fun, but I bet this will be even more so. I was thinking now that I have a 16", I could get rid of the longer one, I am going to wait and do some velocity testing on the different lengths and figure no reason to sell a gun, if you don't need the cash. Now onto the hunt for a 24" octagon barrel.

You won't be disappointed in the 24" model! I had a couple of 16" guns which were fun but I sold them, I've got a 20" model which is very utilitarian, but the 24" model is just a BLAST to shoot.

A couple of months ago I was shooting at the range. I had just finished shooting my Mossy MVP Patrol in 308 (pretty loud), and I switched over to the 24" R92 shooting 38 spl. After my first shot the guy 2 benches over comes running over yelling "Stop, Stop, you just had a squib". Well, I had seen where the bullet hit the target, so I assured him that I had just switched to a quieter rifle and that everything was O.K. Took another shot to show him, and then let him shoot the gun. His parting words were that he needed to get one of those.

Like a lot of recent Rossi's, the wood is a bit proud at most of the stock-to-receiver interfaces, but this is a shooter, not a collector so I couldn't be happier with the rifle (although I did dump the safety with the plug from Steve's Gunz).

I've keep hearing here on Calguns that Big 5 carries Rossi Lever Actions. But I've never seen a single one in any of the four Big 5's in my area. I keep asking and the employees keep telling me they've never seen one EVER.

I would just order one online, but I've been told not to buy one that I haven't checked out in person. Because quality control is so hit-or-miss that if I don't check it out in person to make sure everything works smoothly and fit and finish are good, I could buy a big time lemon.

I've seen them at a few Big 5s around here, but they sell pretty quick. From what I've seen of Big 5 employees, most of them wouldn't know what one is anyway.

I don't know about their QC, just that my Rossi 92 45 Colt is just fine. I think most bad reviews of the Rossi are coming from people comparing them to guns that cost 2 or 3 times more.

Most of the real problems I hear of re: Rossi R92's seem to be with the larger caliber guns: 44mag, 45LC, etc.

I have purchased 4 total - One before the last panic and 3 after. I have seen the cosmetic issues increase with Rossi's rush to try and keep up with higher demand. All of my guns have been 357/38SPL, and all have WORKED flawlessly (and get better with use, as is the case with all lever action guns I have ever owned, regardless of manufacturer).

Here are examples of what Rossi seems to currently call a "fit" between wood and metal on my most recent purchase, the 24" model (purchased 5/14):

So, in my PERSONAL OPINION AND EXPERIENCE this is the kind of "lemon" you can get with a current production Rossi R92 in 357/38SPL. Previous purchases had similar parts "fits", but just a little better. They have all be EXCELLENT shooters.

On the other hand, don't get me started on Mossberg 464 quality control issues. I have found those to significantly impact FUNCTION (in fact one Mossy is still at the factory for repair, going on 2 months now...)

lol, my son says its like shooting the Henry 22 when we shoot .38 spl out of our 24" rifle. Of course the Rossi weighs about twice as much

I see em all the time, mostly 44mag, 20" barrels. I've never seen an Oct barrel Rossi in any store..

I wouldn't call it a crap shoot but I would want to see the gun and run some snap caps through it if I could. I ordered both of mine online and wound up sending the .357 rifle back to Rossi for "adjustment" ...the 44 carbine was ok out of the box. I've read that the new guns coming out of the factory are nicer these days.

Thanks guys. I guess I'll go to my closest Big 5 and ask them to order one. I was looking for the .357 in 20" stainless. Hopefully Big 5 carries that version in their system.

Very nice, I've had one for decades. Wish they made one in .32-20.
