Ruger vs Savage

I have a savage 99 chambered in.308 made in 79 great gun good build quality and have hunted deer with it successfully. I have a a Ruger m77 that's a few years older in 30-06 that has been my go-to rifle for white tail, antelope, black bear , and elk ( did good 2 outta 3) since I was 14. I still use it for white tail but have a Weatherby in .300 win mag that was passed onto me for larger game like elk and mule deer. That Ruger has some age on it from being carried around but it is a true friend in the field. I really the Ruger and have since added a gunsite scout A+ would buy again.
PS. I like the American but you may want to consider getting her a hunting rifle with a wooden stock. 20 years from now that stock will hold some good memories of hunting out there with her dad.WTB m&p 9 5?

I just looked at a Savage "Hunter" at Turners, along with the Axis and Ruger AR. I have never held a Ruger American Rifle that I liked.
The Hunter had a Nikon scope and felt pretty tight to me. I'll put one on layaway for my son, soon in .270 cal...It takes a lot of balls to play golf the way I do.
Happiness is a warm gun.

If it were me, I would go Savage. When I was growing up I never thought much of them, but they are simply a different company and product today. Big thumbs up on Savage. I own three and swap the barrels around on one.
Do get the accutrigger. I didn't think there were any more without them, but apparently there are...Matt Brown

accutrigger uber alles.....
If you are looking at the Ruger American keep in mind that it's a push feed gun, not controlled round feed like the M77 so you really can't compare the two.
Buy a Savage and be happy.WTB: Sig P245 or P220 Compact
