Sporterized Arisaka Type 99.
Someone took some time and effort to sporterize this rifle. New turned down bolt knob, polish and reblue, D&T for scope, Bishop stock, etc.
Sporterizing was a popular hobby in the 50's-70's. Arisaka's, while strong actions, were not popular primarily due to the awkward safety, as compared to Mauser M98's, Springfield 03's.
This rifle, mum or not, has no military collector value, as it's been modified. It might be attractive to someone that collects sporterized rifles of that era. That said the value is probably somewhere between $150-250, depending on bore condition.
If it is in the original chambering (7.7x58mm Jap) that ammunition is still available and ballistically equal to the .303British.Luck favors the prepared.
The original battle plan did not survive initial contact with the enemy.

It once was a rare Type 99 sniper rifle. The evidence is in picture #3. You can see the Nagoya arsenal mark in the picture (looks like an 8 in a circle). Normal Type 99's have the arsenal and serial number on the side of the receiver. I know maybe a couple of people who could restore it, but... ugh... it's pretty far gone, IMHO. It might go more than $150 on gunbroker, but it won't go as high as if it was in original shape.Comment
