    Timney Safety and the R700

So like many I'm considering replacing my XMP trigger with most likely a Timney.

I'm having a hard time finding info about how the safety on the Timney triggers with safeties work. Seems like it's a different mechanism but I can't find any clear answers.

And what about the triggers without safeties?

Does the safety on the Timney 510 work the same as that of the XMP?
If not how does it differ?
Will the safety lever on my R700 SPS AAC-SD work with a Timney 510?
What will the safety lever on my R700 SPS AAC-SD do if I opted for a Timney without a safety?

My Timney did not require any safety work. I have an older 700 made in 2005 it was drop in job, really pretty easy.

That's a strange question - How do the Timney safties work? Backwords is "safe" and forward is "fire".

It sounds like you are confusing Timney with Rifle Basix where they are designed to take the Remington safety parts and they even sell safety parts kits.

The Timney's with no safties are made for people with very limited/specialized applications like benchrest or some other type of range competition.

maybe this is what you were asking. the XMP safety works with locking the sear, while the Timney 510 safety actually locks the trigger from moving. at least that is what I've read online.

I believe the issue with XMP safety is that since the sear is locked and not the trigger, if there is an issue and the sear is in the fired position, because of malfunction or whatever, before safety is disengaged, when you disengage the safety you could get a accidental discharge. this is not possible with the Timney 510 as it locks the trigger from moving while the safety is on.

anyone correct me if my understanding is wrong.

          No.
The 510 will have it's own safety lever already installed on it as it comes out of the package.

              Thank you Randall,

I just watched the Brownell's DIY video on the 510. I understand how that the safety is part of the trigger system. When I remove my XMP trigger it will take the existing safety with it and that the 510 has its own included.

So if I installed a Timney without a safety there would be no safety lever as it would be removed with the XMP.

If you installed a timney trigger without a safety, you will have a trigger without a safety.

You will not be able to move the remington safety lever to the timney trigger.
The safety from the remington trigger will NOT fit on the timney.
The way the safeties work on those triggers are completely different.
