    Buying a Rifle on Gunbroker

    Hi Guys,

I have been having a hard time finding the Rem 700 in 300 Win that i want. I decided to look on GB and i found it for a decent price.

My question is how are the transfers done or moreover does the seller have to be present? I am assuming if they are not they have to send via another FFL? I have never bought a firearm from another state and all the ones I have bought the seller was present.

This seller has an A+ rating and a lot of feedback so I feel comfortable buying from them just wasn't sure on the process.

I just bought one of gb that was out of state from a store. Hit the commit to buy and was then prompted to contact them or wait for them to contact my account. They contacted me.. i gave them my information and payment. Then had my ffl fax his information. Next thing i know i had a tracking number and just had to wait for my ffl to receive it. Easy peezy.

Normally it will be FFL to FFL. First, ask if the seller is willing to ship to CA, some sellers are not willing ship to CA because of the crazy laws.
Second, go to your local FFL and ask if they are willing to receive a rifle from out of state, most do. They will charge a higher price than the normal transfer, and I think they charge taxes on it starting this year.
If you can not find an FFL that is willing to do this, GB has a section that help you out.

A non-licensed person can ship to a valid FFL, and transfer to be done at destination FFL. As mentioned above, CA laws can complicate things. I believe the sender has to visit the CA DOJ website and generate a shipping letter.

Piece of cake. I just bought a rifle from a private party in Florida, all he does is ship the item with a copy of his drivers license and a bill of sale, my FFL receives it, generates the paperwork, then the 10 day wait. If seller is an FFL, then it ships from them right to your dealer. If your seller seems straight, go for the deal. Send funds as a USPS money order for added help if something goes wrong. Good luck OP, after this one you'll be buying more online as the selection across the nation is awesome!

A non-licensee can ship to an FFL under federal and state laws...that assumes the FFL will receive a weapon from a non-licensee. Some won't, and are therefore best avoided.

I don't think the sender has to generate a shipping letter, only an FFL...since I no longer buy weapons in California, I may be wrong and would appreciate a correction if I am.

A good deal on GB may not be a good DEAL when all is done.

I have done this a lot.See the end.
If the person will ship here?
First make sure your FFL will receive from a private party. Many FFLs can be terrible in attitude or worse, refuse to do it.Some charge a jacked up fee to receive it.This goes for recieving from a out of state FFL as well.A guy where I live wants $125(Yikes).2 other FFLs want $25(GTG) for me.
Search Gunbroker (FFLs in your zipcode). The people listed will usually post their fees. The receiving FFL will know what needs to be done..
Second, you are going to pay tax and dros fees.

Tax on out of state purchase, you ask?CAL DOJ started forcing all the FFLs to collect tax last year. Why because they can and remember Calif was broke.

I started this many years ago:Reason:Try and buy a nice rifle here in Victorville,San Bernardino,Riverside, etc.
I am talking about a Sako,Blaser,Weatherby MarkV etc.Every dealer around was, what do you want that for?Buy this Remington(Sorry),Savage etc. What ever they have or can order in one day from Davidsons.I owned those already and wanted to go to another level.
                Good luck in your hunts.

Thought about this too, but was wondering how much on top of the purchase price does it cost? Shipping, transfer fee, dros, ffl...?

My fees were : transfer - $25, DROS - $25, Shipping - $25, state tax - $18.75. Total: $93.75. sounds kinda pricey but I paid $150-$200 less than buying it from here in Calif., and this rifle is in NICE condition. I'm OK with it, altho all of these "FEES" sucks. Hey price we gotta pay for our fun.

This is a 50th anniversary edition SS with fluted barrel just awesome looking. So that is why I want it. Plus I can't even find any 700 In stock anywhere. Maybe it because of the recall I don't know.

I have bought numerous firearms on Gunbroker. C&R guns, modern guns, handguns, etc. The only hard part is finding a good local FFL to take delivery of it who won't bury you in fees. If the seller will ship to CA, you are golden. I have used Alamo Pawn and Aces Jewelry and Loan in West Covina.

There is some stuff that you just can't find in the local market, so go for it.

1 many FFL's are right here on Calguns. Check the Gunbroker list of FFL's. Then seach Calguns forum with the name or business name of that FFL. Some have an excellent reputation. Some do not.

2 I have never yet had any problem with an FFL insisting the gun be shipped by another FFL. Most do not care if it is shipped by a private person or an FFL holder.

3 The gun must be shipped ONLY to the address that is listed on the receiving FFL license.

4 Sales tax is collected if the seller is a business. Sales tax is not collected if the seller is a private party.

5 There a zillion more choices of guns to buy on gunbroker than any LGS.

6 If you are a seller, in general you will get more selling by gunbroker auction rather than selling on Calguns. But not always.

7 Sellers on Gunbroker that will not sell to California will say that on their auction site. Use the web browser and search for 'Cal' or some such catch all. If a seller does not say they won't sell to California and you win their auction, and then they back out: they are at fault, not you, and they have to pay Gunbroker selling fees (about 4%). You pay nothing.

True. However, if your FFL can't get a specific firearm due to a number of reasons, it doesn't really matter.
