    What would happen.....

If my muzzle brake wasn't perfectly aligned when I fire the rifle for the first time?
    Just destroy the muzzle brake?
Blow up the end of the rifle?

If your muzzle brake is misaligned, it will be less efficient and may have a torquing recoil and probably alter your POI. To break your brake/barrel, you need an act of incompetence at some level.

Muzzle brake ID's are not near the OD of your bullet. So for it to be installed unaligned to the degree of collision, you basically need to not be using a lathe at all when making one or the other.

Oh, don't doubt it for ONE MINUTE that the necessary level of incompetence is out there.
I have seen muzzle brakes that have bullets impacting them that were installed by "known" professonals...

I reserve the wood rasp for knurling my bolt handles.

I don't doubt it for ONE SECOND. I do have some barrel work on the horizon. I'll probably given you a call eventually since you are local.

But, "professional" is a term a bit over-used in the gun industry. Heck, gun shops claims that their staff are firearms professionals.

Nothing will happen. I actually install mine without the hole bored. That way the first shot makes the hole perfectly in line with the barrel bore. After that I dremel down the rough edges.

If it's a very minor variance, you may get lucky and just screw up POI and the way recoil is felt, too much, and the round impacts the brake, you're talking anywhere between the brake being destroyed, to the barrel being destroyed with the brake.. Thread alignment tools are your friend

I think "professional" just means you get paid to do the job.
I don't think it has anything to do with how good you might be in that capacity.

Wrap your cleaning rod in two places with enough masking tape so it centers the cleaning rod in the rifles bore.
If you have clearance all the way around and no sign of copper on the brake you are most likely good to go.
