    7mm Love bite

I shot my friends 7mm Savage bolt action the other day and it bit me. I was unprepared for the kick, the scope hit me in the face and nicked my sunglasses. Next time i will be ready.

Though someone might get a kick out of this.

      "safety glasses" to the rescue.

Was it a cheaper scope with a super shallow eye relief?

Think it was a Nikon, had an adjustable grey ring on the front bell. The eye relief seamed shallow, but i lack the experience with scopes to be sure.

The scope was not damaged in the making of that picture.

That reminds me of this time I was at the range. Had a guy come up, set up, fire off one shot, heard him cussing loudly, then take down and go home.

I didn't see what happened, but he was shooting a 300 Win Mag that he just bought. On the first shot he took, the scope gashed his eyebrow and broke the scope mount. As he went to cover up his pain, he dropped his rifle on the ground. Bad day for him.

It was a 7mm Remington Magnum that I watched the guy get hit by the gun and started rubbing his shoulder. From what I've read, you don't notice the recoil when you're concentrating on the game. But you still have to zero it...

I had a Ruger 77 in 7mm with the super thin light barrel. Shooting from a bench to Zero my scope before a hunt was painful. Didnt feel anything on hunt day. The Piggie did YUMMMMM carnitas
I only clocked myself once. I let off a round on a 4" S&W M29 .44 Mag. The super super light trigger let off before I was ready. My Stetson saved my forehead that day.

At the 100 yard this weekend - gentleman sits next to me and pulls out a pretty custom .308. He shot 3 rounds, cleaning between each. Being we were side by side, I could see his target while shooting, and he was not hitting paper. Next firing session I hear him swear, then see the RO walking him to the first aid area. His eye glasses got rammed up in his face, and it looked like he could use a stitch or two between his eyes.

4 shots, none on paper and maybe a scar. That's not a great range day. Me on the other hand, got my first sub MOA group with my new mossberg MVP. I was grinning.

Feel almost like part of my upbringing is lacking.

At the bench you're pretty much locked in position and the recoil is worse. Shooting while standing/sitting allows your body to roll with the recoil making it feel less.

I had the same thing happen to me the 1st time I shot my uncle's 7mm Mag Remington 700. I was 15 at the time and didn't hold the rifle firm enough, so the scope hit me square on my shooting glasses. I was pretty embarrassed - although I did hit the piece of clay pigeon I was aiming at.

Needless to say, I've never made that mistake again and it's still my favorite rifle of the many that my uncle owns.
