New Henry H011 original - ammo question

I just picked up a Henry original H011 in .44-40. Any recommendations on which ammo to shoot? Will just be for target practice and enjoying shooting.

Sorry OP, no help with your question. I wish Henry would make these in .357 Its such a great looking gun..

Please share some pictures if and when you can..
It takes a lot of balls to play golf the way I do.

Trail Boss should list a cowboy load for & BTW it looks great, but if you don't reload any of the cowboy loaded stuff should be fine.

Nice thing about the 44-40: it's tapered instead of a straight case. All orig Winchesters/Henrys used tapered cartridges (32-20, 30-40, 44-40), they worked better in a lever gun than straight cases. Still is true today.

Colt revolvers used straight wall. They work better in revolvers than tapered . Colt had 38 Colt, 44 Colt, 45 Colt (LC) all with straight walls.

Winchester and Colt knew what they were doing !

Colt also had the .32-20 in both the SAA and the Army Special (I have one of those). Great cartridge, I'd love to have a .32-20 rifle.

.44-40 can be a bit of a challenge to reload. The case is thin and can easily collapse at the taper when the crimp is applied. It took me about 5 failures to finally get the hang of it. I had an original 1873 rifle for awhile that I loaded for. Traded the rifle but kept the brass and dies in the off chance that I get another .44-40 in the future.

The Henry is a nice looking rifle!

            Nice score OP! I'm jealous!

Like golfish, I wish they'd make it in .357. Oh, and drop the price in half.

I'm hoping to see the price come down on these but I don't think I would buy one in that caliber. I like their Big Boys in .357\44 but not enough to buy one. I have an H001, its a blast to shoot and very accurate.

I know I'm dreaming but I'd really like to see Henry make a model 92 in .357 or 44.

                Their customer service is outstanding..

OP, how about some pictures and a range report....please.

FWIW, take a look at this rifle. Henry really stepped up on this puppy

Final got to the range after 3 weeks of travel. The Original Henry was a dream. First time I fired "Butter" which is my nickname for the H011. Shot prograde and ultra max without a problem. Just need to get used to the tubular magazine feed. One of my favorites in my collection. ImageUploadedByTapatalk1405740775.164830.jpg
