My GF has not waken me up with the same surprise. I'm guessing she wants to be my wife before she does. Guess I'll roll the dice and wife her!

Man, that's a nice looking rifle! I handled the MVP as well but I thought the mags and the way the mags locked into the rifle felt a little on the cheap/weak side. I dunno. Don't worry brother, those 10 days will go by quickly...I have an awesome wife!
When we woke up the other day, she turned to me and said "Honey, we need to drive down to (Riflegear) to get that rifle you want as an early Father's Day gift"
So we packed up the kids, headed down, and started the clock on the following:
I did get to handle the Mossberg MVP Predator (308, 18" barrel), and it felt like a nice rifle as well. But since know I want the iron sights, I would have ended up spending the same amount on the Mossberg eventually anyway, so I went with the Ruger.
Sigh. 10 days is a loooong time to wait.

I have been on the Metallic Silhouette range and shooting from 200 to 500 meters with an HWS. Have not noticed any issue with the short barrel knocking down critters, 'cept when shooting cross course from Chicken2 to the far right Ram. The 168 gr target loads, although hitting, didn't have enough oomph for the angled shot. One item you might add to your magazine options is an 'Original Bob Sled' A.I. - 308. http://originalbobsled.com/Default.aspx It is a mag replacement that allows you to load one round at a time. Since Ruger choose the A.I. pattern for it's mags, it is next to impossible to plunk one round in like an M1a. Have fun with your GSR! :-)Comment

Um, there's nothing stopping you from dropping one round right into the receiver and chambering it. I've done it many times and ruger includes single loading in the manual.I have been on the Metallic Silhouette range and shooting from 200 to 500 meters with an HWS. Fair enough. I prefer to have the bolt push the round to the chamber as intended out of the mag. But it does work. Just another option. Thanks. :-)

I see. I thought you meant dropping a round into the chamber was next to impossible when you were talking about plunking one into the mag. You can press single rounds into the GSR mag while it's inserted if you are using the polymer version.Comment

Yea, it could be a little lighter, but then you would be down near hunting rifle weights and they are no fun to shoot all day like the GSR. The trigger is SWEEEEET BTW.Comment
-
Did you do something to the trigger? Mine isn't so great. The pull is weighted fine for a hunting rifle, imo, but there's a bit more creep than i'd like.Comment
