Every time i watch a program about the Korean war they talk about how our weapons were outdated. Well if they were so were the weapons of the commies. Everybody was using leftover WW 2 guns. At the ranges the Korean war was fought the Garand was still superior. and the select fire M1 carbine, tompson, grease gun could hold their own against the burp guns. Our machine guns and mortars were good.

The main weapons that the Norks had that were "better", at least at the outset, were the Russian tanks they had (which the bazooka that our troops had couldn't stop) and the Russian MiG jets that initially outclassed most everything in the US inventory on scene. The F-86 was really the first fighter that was even (or perhaps slightly better than) the MiG-15. The reason the US planes eventually beat down the Nork (and Russian!) pilots were that they were better trained and more experienced. They were good enough that some of them even defeated MiGs using WWII piston-engined fighters.Every time i watch a program about the Korean war they talk about how our weapons were outdated. The other thing that the Nork (and eventually Chinese) troops had that was vastly superior was numbers! The victories that the Red troops had were mostly gained at appalling (to us.. they couldnt care less) losses in troops. As the saying goes, quantity has a quality all its own."Mr. Rat, I have a writ here that says you are to stop eating Chen Lee's cornmeal forthwith. Now, It's a rat writ, writ for a rat, and this is lawful service of same!"Comment
