There is no end to the modifications you could do. Basically anything designed for a Remington 700 Short Action rifle is going to be an option.

As for a drop box magazine, they make several flavors. You're going to have to change your bottom metal. If you can find one that has DROP-IN and BDL in the name, it should work with your existing stock. There are ton out there that will not. They came up with their own design with the idea that you would upgrade your stock as well and have McMillian USA or whomever was making that stock for you cut the hole to fit their design. My recommedation is to go with something drop-in for now, and if you decide to have McMillan or somebody else build you a custom stock they can always make their stock to fit the standard BDL bottom medal and it will still work great.

The AICS is a nice stock option. But as you might have guessed, I like McMillan USA Fiberglass stocks better. The A5 being my favorite. They can make in lots of different colors and patterns. GAP Camo is pretty sexy, and is Tan, gray and olive drap swirl. The possibilities are endless.

muzzle brake so you can shoot a lot without getting banged up
      quality rings...dont cheap out
reload if you can and use 175+ grain pills (assuming you're using 308) and try varget, RE-15, 4064, etc. so you can tune your rifle
chrono your tuned load and use a ballistic calculator and then validate at various yardages to get your dope at the longer distances

Edm arms makes some great scope bases. They can give 15 degrees elevation and up. So based upon your scope internal elevation, this can help you get to or past 1,100 yards.

If you are looking to spend $300 on a box magazine, I would look at selling the existing stock and buying a chassie that includes a box magazine set up.

I would also ask you about your current reloading setup and optics???

You've been steered in a good direction ... Now you just gotta buy a case of match ammo!

What scope is that on the rifle?

I realize it's more for .223 (didn't at time of purchase unfortunately) but I picked up 2 of them (other one is on a Savage 25 in .223) for a good deal. $381 each. I've been told that it will work just fine, but the adjustments will be different since the round is .308 and the notches are designed for .223.

There are two "drop-in" short action BDL compatible systems and both of them suck.
They bolt use proprietary magazines that are not as dependable as an AICS magazine.
They are also more expensive than a PTG botttom metal AFTER the price of inletting the stock for the non-drop-in bottom metal.

As an example, PTG often puts their AICS compatible bottom metal on sale for $75 and it usually sells for $100.
Add $75 for inletting to that.
              Add $65 for a 5rd AICS mag or $75 for a 10rd mag.

HS precision gets $300 with one 4 round mag.
              Extra mags are $85 for a 4rd or $130 for a 10rd.
Wyatt's gets $250 with one 5 round mag.
Extra mags are $64 for 5rd or 10rd, but the mags are single stack are really long.
A Wyatt's 5rd mag is as long as an AICS 10rd mag.
A 10rd Wyatt's mag is too long to use in prone with a 6" tall bipod.

Randall Did this one for me a month ago. It's a Seekins Bottom metal ($200 no mag). It works for me because I have an AICS 1.5 and a J. Allen chassis, and they all share the same mags (AICS @ $75). The AICS mag fits the Seekins box a little tighter then I'd like. It was Randalls First time inletting a Seekins, but I have to say, the fit is A+. If you go to Randall, Don't drink all of his New Castle! Congrats Randall!

Any idea what size Butler Creek covers I should get for this scope?

I ordered a #14 (40.8mm) and #33 (51.9mm) and they are both just a tad too large. The next size down for #13 would be 39.9mm which seems like it may not fit.

Does anyone have any recommendations or experience with this and could recommend something? Could I put something in the covers to add to it to tighten up its fitness? Maybe some cloth strips? Would that be recommended?

Call SWFA and ask or take your scope into an LGS and try them on for size before buying.

Results of my first outing with the 700. You'll notice smaller holes in the upper left. Those were made with my other rifle in .223, the Savage which I posted in here as well. Not too bad considering I haven't really fired a rifle like this in about 3 years and the whole setup was new. Still figuring out my best positioning and such. I need some more practice hehe.

                      Target dimensions: 8.5"x8.5" @ 100 yards.
