    She's Home!!! B.A.T Model M

    So she's finally home!

    B.A.T Model M Multiflat 1.47" Action
    * Long Action Right Bolt / Right Port
    * 338 Lapua Mag Cutout
    * 308 Bolt - Spiral Fluting

    Pairing this with the following:
    * Jewell Trigger
    * Nightforce Rings
    * Nightforce Competition is on the top of my list
    * Bartlein 7mm, 1:9 Twist Barrel
    * Chambering in 284 Winchester or 284/7mm Shehane
    * PR&T Lowboy Stock

    I might even consider making this a switchbarrel/switch chassis and do a magnum chambering of some sort (338 lapua mag?) and run a XLR Chassis (which he is out 7-10 months to do an inlet for a multiflat model M action).

    Here are the pics. I haven't seen too many BAT action pics online so hopefully this gives others a good idea of what this looks like:

              Beautiful actions as always from Bruce.
              If you want to see a lot of BAT actions they dominated The Firearms Industry Super Shoot this year as well as most longrange Benchrest matches.
              You can twist the firing pin assembly by hand to remove it and install it.
              Good luck with your build.

                      Thanks for posting close up pictures of your new action. There isn't a whole lot on BAT's website or elsewhere on the web. I don't even see any tool marks on the bolt face from the machining process. Those actions aren't cheap, but since they're made with 17-4 PH stainless, they're not very nice on cutting tools. But they're ludicrous stiff according to the calculations Wes Gras did for German on his website.

                      From the close up of the front receiver face, it appears that BATs also have a front centering register for the barrel shoulder, similar to the Barnard and Chombart designed actions. This removes the dependency of the barrel threads being used to center the axis of the barrel to the action.

                      I don't know how many BAT actions are used by the Palma and F-Open crew up in Sac. Barnards and RPAs seem to be the most prolific in those games. You've got top shelf components for a great build. Hopefully we'll see it at Sac sometime this year.

                        I have taken apart a few Bat actions assembled by other notable gunsmiths and I have not encountered a barrel that had a shoulder fitted into that thread relief.
                        It's really just a thread relief so that you don't have to cut a sharp shoulder on the barrel tennon root in order to fit into the action with the barrel torque shoulder properly seated against the receiver.
                        When you fit the barrel into the receiver by lapping it in, you really don't need a feature to center the barrel.
                        The tight thread fit does it just fine...

                        If you are a hack who can't do a nice tight fit between receiver and barrel, then please stay away from trying to build high-end target rifles.

                          If I can get it built up fully, which I should be able to, it will definitely be seen out at Sac. I just hope the guy behind it can do it justice

                              Accurate. I have a lot of experience with with 17-4, and it's an amazingly hard stainless.
                              Here is some 1/2" 17-4 heat treated to condition H900 shot with .308 at 100-200 yards. The close up being the biggest crater on it (likely due to the TIG weld annealing it).
