Mounted Scout Scope on Lever Gun

I decided that hitting steel at 200 yards was difficult as the front sight obliterated the steel gong....

I have been somewhat reluctant to go this route as I am not sold on the visual...

The gun: 16" SS Rossi 44 Magnum Carbine

The scope: Burris Scout Scope, 1" tube, 2.75 Magnification

Mounts: Warner QD Rings, Rossi rail...

Scope, rings and rail all from Amazon...

I did zero the scope without much ado.... Only hit the gong once as the round knocked it over...that's a 6" circle @ 100 yards.





The reticle looks canted in the photo but that is trying to get a decent shot of the scope picture, camera in one hand, rifle in the other...

I mounted a leupold 2x7 on my marlin 1895 and I like it but trying to acquire a target on the run or a target up close is difficult for me. I'm thinking of switching to a red dot.

I have a red dot on my Rio Grande 30-30.... It works pretty well..

I like the eye relief on the Scout..... I think you can use it both eyes open like a red dot...

I did this on my m94 win. Got a moose the first year after installing it.

if you liked irons why not go with a peep sight - sight it in so that the top of the front sight in centered on the bullseye not covering it.

Personally I mounted a scope on a lever 30-30 for my now ex-gf and I used a kit to mount over the action instead of up front (scout style), to balance the weight better when you have to bring it up quickly and sight.

Yea but thats a no go on a Rossi 92 action as the brass ejects straight up.
I have a NCStar scout scope on my Rossi .357 and its quik on target with it.

What about a side mount like on the older Model 94's? (the pre-64's) Or don't wanna tap into the side?
