Savage Model 11 Hog

Anyone have one of these you guys can comment on? I been eye-balling one in 308 and thinking if I should pull the trigger on it. Are there any other options out that comparable to it?

Im planning on leaving it stock (irons only), so no upgrades and tacitcoolness to this gun besides maybe a comp to reduce recoil. Just using it for brush hunting and maybe even mid range target shooting.

Are there any iron sight upgrades for this gun? I been looking but seems like most are universal ones which I don't know how well it'll work for this setup.

Any advice be appreciated.

Sorry I don't have any insight on this rifle. But I was wondering why you are considering this one over plenty of other fine rifles by Savage?

Mostly because of brush hunting and it has threading at the muzzle to attach a comp if I want to. Also because of the iron sights... I haven't seen iron on a bolt gun for a long time

I just bought one and I haven't shot it yet though. I removed my iron sights. Don't know if there are any 3rd party aftermarket iron sights for it. For $400, it is the best bang 308 rifle!

Nice. Please give feedback when you do shoot it. I read some saying it can get 1/2 moa with worked up load but I doubt it. Want to see if from a trusty calgunner hehe.

Now that I think of it, I saw a bolt action Ruger chambered in .308 at Big 5 Sporting Goods. It comes with a 10 round magazine. The hog hunter I saw on the Savage Arms website was over $900 but the Ruger was around $700 if I remember correctly. It came with the same iron sights as the M1 Garand. I can't remember the finish but it might have been camo. May be worth looking into.

Now that I think of it, I saw a bolt action Ruger chambered in .308 at Big 5 Sporting Goods. It comes with a 10 round magazine. The hog hunter I saw on the Savage Arms website was over $900 but the Ruger was around $700 if I remember correctly. It came with the same iron sights as the M1 Garand. My bad! I must've mixed it up with another one. Which means I probably did the same for the Ruger. If you have a Big 5 near you, it might be worth checking out.

I believe he's referring to the Gunsite Scout. Available in 16.5" barrel and 18" barrel (stainless only). It's essentially a cut down M77 with a DBM, scout scope rail, and a flash hider.

The Ruger is over $800 and the mags run something like 70 bucks each.

Hog hunter is a much better deal if you don't care about detachable magazines. If you do want magazines, I would take a hard look at the Mossberg MVP which can use M1a or .308 DPMS pattern mags.

Finally sighted in my Hog Hunter. Bore sighted the rifle at 50 yards and took only 6 rounds to dial the scope. Went to 100 yards right away. Ammo used was FGMM 175 grain. Sub MOA! if I do my part.

Most Savages will shoot great groups out of the box. All mine will shoot 1/2" hand loads. Some are better.
