Initial Report on New Savage 10FP-SR

Hey guys, I took my first scoped rifle, a 10FP-SR, to the 100 yard range at P2K today. I have her paired up with an SWFA 10x42 riding on a TPS aluminum 20 MOA mount and aluminum TPS super low rings. Trigger is set at what I believe to be 2 pounds. I was shooting Turkish, ZQ1 NATO ammo (guaranteed to shoot 1 MOA at 100m). For support, I had a backpack up front and a t-shirt at the toe, shooting off the bench.

I was shooting 5 shot groups averaging about 3.5". After the first box I was a little disappointed. I set the gun aside to cool down and played with my buddy's carbine. Next go with the Savage, I shot a 1.1", 3 shot group (picture attached). Feeling a little more confident, I loaded up 5 rounds of American Eagle 7.62, 168 OTM. First two bullets were on top of each other, I assumed it was a lucky shot. Third round was touching, at this point I was getting excited. Ended up putting the 5 rounds inside 0.63".Then another 5 shots of the AE into 0.82". That felt really good.

I am going to make a sandbag before the next trip. The t-shirt worked OK but was not optimal. I am thinking about heading to the South Bay Rod and Gun Club to shoot a little longer ranges and start working on reading wind. Plus it's nicer to be outside. I am pretty sure the gun is capable of 1/2 MOA with a tailored load, I just need more practice and to start reloading.

Pictures below are of, my Savage and my buddy's AR we shot, target shot with American Eagle (5 shot groups, 0.82" and 0.63"), and target shot with ZQ1 (5 shot group is 3.25", 3 shot group is 1.1").

    Thanks for reading.

Great groups! Get yourself a decent bipod and a sandbag for the rear.

Thanks Mongoose. I have a UTG bipod mounted that I didn't use, but it seems pretty stable. I'll try it next time with a bag in the rear.

Nice groups! If you decide to hit up SBR&G let me know, I might want to join. Thanks for the Bushnell today too!

Thanks, the gun and ammo did most the work, I just pulled the trigger. I'll let you know when I'm heading out there, and I hope you enjoy the sight.
