    Muzzle for hunting rifle?

    Hey guys
I have an old remington 721 with a threaded barrel that I got a while back but never really used it. Well I now have my hunting license and I am putting my gear together and I am wondering if I should put a brake or flash hider on. I searched around and from what I read a brake will make this really loud, probably want to avoid that.

I would leave the thread protector on there and call it a day. You stated the intended purpose of your rifle is hunting so I assume you'll be carrying it with your person and shooting it out in the field where only one to a few shots will be fired during an entire day. You won't need the extra weight and length on your rifle much less the blast created by the muzzle brake without ear proctection like at a range.

good info, thanks. I actually do not have a thread protector, its been bugging me that there are just threads and I feel like I need to cover them up. Never thought about a protector.

A brake will be louder for the shooter, but it breaks up the noise and muffles it from your targets point of view. You can wear electronic headphones to enhance your hearing while hunting as well as protect your ears while shooting. I usually run a brake on my rifles for different reasons, but a thread protector is great too.

Cut off the threads and re-crown it.
