    Sierra Gameking 308

I can't seem to find Sierra Matchking or any other target 308 rounds for decent price.

Local walmart has plenty of Gameking but im wondering if Gameking will make great precise target shooter until I find some good target ammos.

    Better than throwing rocks.

I reload Gameking bullets for my Weatherby chambered for .270 Winchester. It will shoot 1/2" groups at 100 yds.

I never found Gamekings to be on par with SMK's...and the best my 308 did with a 5 shot group with SMK's was 0.382"

Game kings were more like 1.2" groups. I stopped using them.

I use the 165 gamekings for target once and a while. I do have thousands of the 175 smks, but when I do shoot gamekings, they shoot just as good for me up to 300 or so yards, then my groups open up a little, but still shoots excellent. When I say open up, they open up about 1/8 of an inch more than the 175 SMKs beyond 300 yards. But I never shot the gamekings beyond 423 yards according to my laser range finder.

Sorry, I forgot to mention that these are my handloads, not factory assembled ammo.

            It depends on your rifle

            It really depends.

I was able to get 0.300" groups at 100 yards with 150 grain Sierra Game Kings with my .30-06

Results will vary depending on what your rifle likes ... not what you like!

This, by far to me ... is one of the best things about reloading ... trying to figure out what works best with your firearm.

Edit: I was thinking bullets only - not rounds. Sorry.

I've shot a lot of game kings threw my rifles. They shot fine, 1/2 to 3/4 to 1" Constantly. I think hornadys SST's are the best shooting hunting bullet.

Where are you located? Are you looking for bullets only or complete rounds?

If he's saying Walmart he's talk loaded ammo.

That said I hand load Gamekings (the pointed soft points) for my .308. They shoot just under sub MOA which is fine for shooting steel and animals.

If you're going to do a lot of shooting do yourself a HUGE favor and seriously consider reloading. You'll bring your ammo costs down considerably and can tailor loads to your specific rifle. Yeah the initial outlay to get set up can be a bear but it pays for itself fast.

I load and like Sierra Gamekings a great deal. They are Boat Tails.Very accurate in the larger cals like 300RUM,300WSM and 300Win mag.A couple of my 308 rifles prefer the Sierra Pro Hunter. They are flat base. One of the 308s will not shoot Matchkings accurate at all.Groups that will not touch bullet holes at 100yds is a start over for me.I have a Scar 17 that loves the Hornady 150 SST.It will do small cloverleafs.I have been fooling with a 7mmRUM recently.I got around to the Bergers last week and I stack the holes to see the hits.Yes that gun 1 holes with those.
That is just the way these things are and I reload for all my rifles.
Hope you find the right factory loaded stuff if that is what you are doing.I have a Sako 25-06 that really liked the factory loaded Remington 120gr Core Locs.I reload 100gr and 120 Sierras for it with great results.

I reload Sierra GK's and love them. I now have two standard hunting rifles (30-06) that will shoot single hole groups.

thanks for all the inputs guys.

As long as it shoots 1/2 MOA or even sub MOA at 100 yards is good enough for me. I just can't find good match ammos anywhere in socal without paying for delivery.

Why is that? I hear Walmart sells reloading supplies although I've never seen it myself. I know for sure Big 5 carries primers.
