I definitely agree with you when you say it allows the customer to do it in steps rather than shell out the $1,000 plus in one lump sum. And yea, if you already have the action as a donor then it would be less expensive.
I charge $150 to blueprint a receiver and $150 to blueprint a bolt.
I think it's a waste of money to blueprint a bolt when you can buy a BRAND NEW PTG bolt ground oversized to your spec for $125.
The new bolt will not need any truing work, but it will need a bolt handle welded on to it and some deburring which I do for $50.
For $200, you can order a ONE PIECE bolt where the bolt handle is part of the bolt body and it will not need any extra work besides tuning to the cocking piece like every bolt needs...

Trakker, head over to AccurateShooter.com and look for the section "actions", covers most of the bigger names.
        They're not a retail off-the-shelf item (except for maybe Bruno's), they're an order-and-wait item. Generally $900 to $1,500.

Bill Shehane at D-B Supply usually has a lot of longrange actions and barrels in stock to save on the wait times but you have to call him as inventory moves quickly.
On the other actions like BAT,Borden,Kelbley,Stiller you can just call them and have it sent to your local ffl.

On the Pacific Tool and Gauge bolts this is the best deal going. You can order them with the coned bolt you can get them fluted and in any diameter up to 0.705 so you can have a tolerance fit.

If you order a bolt it comes empty so you will need a firing pin assembly. No sense using an old one as Kiff has the 0.062 option at no extra charge. You also need either a M16 or Sako extractor which normally adds a $100-$125 to the build.Kiff does the machining for free so your only out $30 for the kit saving you $95.
You need the bolt handle and a knob so you can get whatever you like for your style of shooting.I like long straight handles and they are cheap.
As Randall pointed out you can get a one piece bolt as well if that is what you like.I prefer getting my handles Tig welded on so the action can be re-timed if the locking lugs or abutments get trued up.

I used to think that too.
Then, I had a customer bring me a one-piece bolt.

Once I figured out that Kiff tightened up the dimensions on the one-piece bolt to accomodate truing the action, I only recommend the one-piece bolts now.
I worked out tooling to measure the bolt handle-lug abuttment length on the bolt and on the action.
Now, I true the lug abbutments to create the 0.010" clearance I want, chamfer the leading edges to time up the two helixes and the bolt fits perfect.

                $750 custom action

At the end of the day, a rebuilt Remington is still a rebuilt Remington. On the used market, I wouldn't give any more for a blue printed one vs. stock. I would only spend the money if I intended to keep it forever.

OP - if you're looking to put something together to shoot long distance, here's
a deal that looks really, really good considering it includes a rail too. A newer to market custom CNC action that uses a PTG bolt. I've conversed with one guy on Acc. Shooter that has one and compares it favorably with his other custom actions. If I were in the market, I'd be all over this. I'm sure I'll be kicking myself down the road for not buying a couple now at this price.

Combined with a Criterion "Remage" barrel (no gunsmith needed if $$$'s an issue), or with a custom barrel of your choice in a suitable caliber for what you want to do. Along with a trigger and stock of your choice, chances are good you'd have one heck of a nice long range shooter.

Hey Rick at $750 they sound like the Predator actions from Stiller when they first came out.
Do they make one with the big Lapua boltface?
