    Question

    How can I tell how old my Remington firearm is?
    Answer

    If you will call or email us the serial number and model number we can determine the approximate age of your firearm.

    Serial numbers were not required until 1968. For models without a serial number, we may be able to determine the age by the 2-3 letters that are stamped on the barrel.

    Contact us through our Help Center by email or call us at 800-243-9700 Mon-Fri 9-5 EST.

      Never initiate force against another. That should be the underlying principle of your life. But should someone do violence to you, retaliate without hesitation, without reservation, without quarter, until you are sure that he will never wish to harm - or never be capable of harming - you or yours again.

        They're not liberals, they're leftists. Please don't use the former for the latter. Liberals are Locke, Jefferson, Burke, Hayek. Leftists are progressives, Prussian state-socialists, fascists. Liberals stand against the state and unequivocally support liberty. Leftists support state tyranny.

          Barrel code (left side of barrel IIRC) gives you the year and month the barrel was manufactured. Combined with the serial number you should be able to determine the decade. I thought all of the serial numbers had a letter prefix? I don't recall where I found the serial number letter prefix -> date mapping, but the barrel code can be found with a modicum of web searching.

                U = 1971, D = September ? Sound right ?

                  Doesn't make any sense to me. The rightmost combination of letters should be month, year, assembly according to http://www.remingtonsociety.com/rsa/...ns/barrelcodes

                  U doesn't qualify as a month

                    And how does the gun shoot? THe *DL's are not that common. I just yesterday came home with a CDL left hand in .223. They made it for a short period it seems - though not a concern of mine. But they don't make it at the moment. Looks quite amazing but haven't cleaned or shot it yet.
                    I'll also like to decode the dates.
