CZ 527, 7.62x39 scope and rings?

After months of swooning and ultimately giving up hope of finding one of these sweeties, it looks like I may have located a slightly used one. Woo hoo!

I am seriously thinking of spoiling this rifle with a decent scope and rings. Research indicates that Warne medium height rings and a Leupold VX2 2-7x33 would be appropriate for this size carbine. My concern is that there may be a conflict between the bolt handle and the ocular end of the scope with medium height rings.

Does anybody have this combo? I am disinclined to alter the bolt handle nor use tall rings. What do you think? Will the handle clear?
    Thanks.

CZ 527, 7.62x39 scope and rings?

I have a 3-9x32 Zeiss East German scope on my 204 Ruger 527 in the factory CZ rings and it clears just fine.

Sounds encouraging. I don't know if this used russian caliber 527 comes with rings. If it does and they're CZ it should be a go. Thanks Randall

I've got this carbine... love it! It came w/ rings and I never scoped the gun. Now that I'm looking to scope it I can't find the dang rings... ain't that a biotch.

I've heard recently that this 527 likes steel-cased rounds... not steel-core bullets; steel-cased cartridges. If you have issues w/ ftf using brass rounds, try replacing the stocker w/ a Wolff striker spring in the bolt.

Post pics when you get it!

        :-)

The CZ bolt does require the scope to sit high. The CZ rings that come with the gun would probably be called "high" in order to clear the rear bell. Any good quality 2 to 7X is a pretty good choice for this carbine, I use a Nikon on mine. Burris makes a very small 4.5 to 14X (32mm front bell) that fits well on the carbine and to tell the truth, were I to do it over again I'd probably buy that instead of the 2 to 7X. The 527 carbine was far more accurate than I ever thought it would be, I'd have opted for a bit "more scope". Only about $250.00 for the Burris Timberline.

Edit: SWFA has a few of the Burris Timberline 4.5 to 14X on their "Samples List" for $199.00.

If you plan on shooting out to 300 maybe 500 with reloads you might want to go with a scope that has more elevation adjustment, you will need at least 32 minutes elevation out to 500/600 yards with 150 grain bullets. I would recommend at the least the Bushnell Elite 3200 10x tactical with mil dot reticle and MOA knobs (used for wind doping at distance) $250 max.

You should also add Burris signature rings (if they will fit) and get 10/20 MOA inserts for about $50 set is they fit your rifle.

I don't anticipate going out much beyond 200. 300 max. I like the look of a smaller scope on a smallish gun. Does anyone know if there is a substantial height difference between CZ rings that come with the rifle (it's jailed now so I can't measure) and the Warne medium rings which I believe are .550"? Thanks.

Bushnell Elite 3200 10x tactical is smaller medium sized scope with target knobs.

I have Warne medium height rings on mine with a Leupold 2x7 rimfire scope and the bolt clears it. It also cleared with the CZ factory rings.

I still have the CZ factory rings if you are in need.

Awesome. Great info everyone. Thank you.

I got to shoot the rifle yesterday before I bought and jailed it. It is in good shape and held a 1.5" group 4 shot group at 100 supported with Wolf steel case HP. It has CZ rings and a pretty large Simmons scope came mounted. As I recall the scope was a 4-14x40 or 50. The rear iron sight had been removed to accommodate the large objective bell. I suppose I should just keep that scope and not be in a fired up hurry to switch it out just because it looks aesthetically large for that carbine.

Again. Thanks for the info. It's always a drag getting stuck with stuff that doesn't fit or work.
