Should I just be happy with...

my 6.5 build I just bought? I was able to take the rig out to 1000 yards and was hooked hardcore. I had about a 8 mil drop at 1000 yards with this rifle and was doing well with the wind.

Now, I am thinking of more of a F-Class rig and am thinking 7mm SAUM or .284 or similar calibers.

OR.......would the 6.5 creedmoor be okay for 1000yd F-class shooting and just spend the money on a barrel(s) to swap out later and on ammo and shoot the rig I have.

I wouldnt hesitate to run the 6.5, work up a load for it and shoot some matches.

What are the specs on your build?

Forget re-chambering at this time, come out and shoot some matches. Then make up your mind. And stop thinking in mils if you plan to shoot on a moa target, that's the best thing to do if you want to try f class.

          Listen to Wooger.

Shoot what you have and if you're serious about F-Class or F-Tactical, get an MOA scope with as much magnification as you can afford.
Fine tune your hand-loading; aggregate S.D.s under 10 is the goal to minimize vertical at distance.

          A trigger with a lighter pull-weight is another consideration....then there's the ski-bipod.

Bottom line is you just need to get out there, that's 70% of it.

That clinic was awesome. I think you were on the second relay so i didn't get to talk to ya. I was on lane 20 having a blast. I don't think I can shoot just 100 any more...

I was lane 21 on the second relay. My last firing session, I had a string of 9-X-X-X-10-9.

When I did that...I was hooked!!!

Shoot the 6.5, you just spend a good amount of money on that. Save and build a new rifle next year of you want.

Get as much trigger time with the 6.5. There is a "tactical" class at Sac Vallley that you should shoot during the F-Class matches - then you will on even footing with the others in that class.

Even if you decide now to get a new rig for F-Open, I will take at least 9 months to put something together - I know people who have been lookin for 7 SAUM brass for over a year.

So get out and shoot what you have.

yeah I remember talking to the guy that was tending your target. there was another guy a couple lanes to your right that was shooting really well too. just curious how loud were my shots? the guy that was shooting my lane I couldnt hear and barely made any noise so Im guessing it was 5.56. I heard a .308 go subsonic too which was wonky.

How were my shot sounds? The guy in lane 20 in my group was shooting a 26" desert tactical in 260 remington so he either must have had loads that were in the low side. He was using 139gr Scenar if I remember correctly.

If you were lane 20, the rounds were definitely supersonic still.

Yours were pretty quiet and didn't kick up much dust. You definitely knew they were hitting though. They made a little crack right before they hit the berm.

There is a LOT of value to shooting one particular rifle/cartridge/barrel a LOT instead of shooting a bunch of different (more specialized) cartridges for different jobs.
You will get better shooting a single rifle as you will not be having to re-learn dope/wind with each gun...

point very well taken. maybe it makes sense to just buy more ammo components and maybe buy a replacement barrel just in case I need to get a rebarrel
