I met up with a Calgun member at the range last sunday.I wanted him to try out a 300 WSM for the very first time and this is his first 5 shot group with the rifle.
I asked him if the recoil was a problem and he said no.He also shot a 700 Remington of mine using a firm hold and shooting it free recoil both. This was to determine if it made any difference in group size.It liked a firm hold for best accuracy but unfortunately I didn't get any pictures.Maybe he will see this and post the picture of the two groups.
I had him do a ladder test with the 300 wsm going from 58-66 grains of powder so he could see how the shots string vertically as well. The picture shows 9 shots at 100 yards next to a quarter and with the quarter almost covering the group to show how much vertical is typical for a 8 grain change in powder.
Hopefully the pictures will show how he did using unfamiliar equipment from a complete stranger.
He had a Siamese Mauser in 45-70 with a heavy barrel and nice stock he let me shoot.I put the first two shots using 350 grain cast bullets into a nice figure eight.I debated the third shot for a few minutes and then let it fly and hit low and right to ruin the group.
Also met a member of the Nor Cal Precision Rifle Club while we were there shooting a 7WSM and 180 Bergers.I think his name was Chuck.
Edit: The top picture with the caliper is sideways 90 degrees. His aiming point was the ink spot and he had no warm up shots. The target got dropped and that is why you see some mud on it.Conditions were moderate winds from 2 O'clock to 7 O'clock.
Edit: Forgot to say earlier that his group is 5 shots.
