    Japanese Arisaka T99 Nagoya Arsenal

So my grandfather brought this along with a samurai sword back from the war, and my father just gave it to me. My grandfather has passed and my dad doesn't know Much about it.

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

It's been really sporterized. Ask this in the Curio and relic forum.

Good that the chrysanthemum is still on it. Bad that it's been really messed with

At least it still has the mum, but I agree... wish I still had the original stock.

I am going to clean it up and put it in the safe, piece of history.

Could the mods please move this or should I just create a new one?

Forget the gun, check the sword to see if its an original ancient sword or one of the mass produced swords. The original antiques are worth a ton of money.

^^^Agreed with the above. I'm in the market for one, not sure if that's something you want to sell though.

Sorry don't want to sell the sword.

Just mainly getting a feel for the gun, its history etc. I realize its been messed with quite a bit.

Don't care about its value, it IS a piece of history.

Certainly don't blame you there. Please post pics/info up on the sword if you get a chance. If you want to talk history, the sword could be hundreds of years old. Even if it's just an NCO's sword, it still has a lot of WWII history. Pass these items on to your kids when they're old enough to appreciate it too.

The sword may be an ancient relic that is beyond any monetary value. The ancient swords are considered works of art. Japan is still looking for many famous swords that has been passed down for hundreds of years. After WWII, they were turned in along with mass produced swords and some has ended up in American homes and attics. They are worth tens of thousands and the famous ones are even more expensive. Some have been turning up as it been passed down to family members. The most famous missing sword is the Honjo Masamune and it may either be in an American home or destroyed in a smelting pot.

Even if you're not selling it, you should find out the value.

If you can post some good pictures of the sword I have a friend who has quite a collection of Japanese war-time swords, he also repairs the hilts and scabbards. He might be able to identify it.

You can restore the rifle a couple different ways. Assemble the parts needed or get a mismatched scrubbed Mum donar. The Stockton Gun Exchange has had a non-shooter parts gun for a couple years now. More nostalgic stock, even if your Gramps did the sport job. Restored with the sword would make a nice display. PAX
