Thanks for the heads up, I like it! Any recommendation on scope rings? I'm guessing there are no stock rings that come with it, and if there are...they are crap (as is usually the case).
Have a Nikon P series to throw on it for now, want to have rings ready.I don't know how political I am, I don't get into all that crap....I just love freedom...

Scope rings will be dependent on the physical size of your scope. You will need to read up on scope ring height, but I like the following:
Weaver Tactical High Rings with a 10mm ring height
Weaver Tactical Medium Rings with a 7mm ring height
UTG Low Rings with a 10mm ring height
If you have a Nikon Prostaff with a 40mm objective, the 10mm height rings should work with about 7-10mm of space under the bell. Don't quote me though.
If you want your scope as low as possible, you will need to make more precise measurements or more trial and error.
Measure 10 times and buy once, or measure once and buy 10 times.

I wish someone would make a forward scout scope mount. For this and the .308. Wanting a 300 blackout but in scout scope config. Mfgs not listening.."when I hear 'meat is murder' (sic) I think murder is delicious" - Stephen Colbert interview with Morrisey 09.10.12

I have a Nikon P-223 series scope with a 40mm objective that has no home, and am hoping that is good enough for this budget rifle.
Anyone know what rings come with the scoped version. Should I just assume they won't work for the P-223 or are crap?I don't know how political I am, I don't get into all that crap....I just love freedom...

Just got the base in the mail. Purchased from eBay.
Sits nice and flat.
Mounting a Nikon Buckmasters 6-18x40.
Right now, I have a set of UTG Low rings which have a ring height of 10mm. With this combination, the space between the scope bell and the barrel is approximately 10mm. A little high for my liking.
Looking at a set of Burris Xtreme Tactical Low rings which have a ring height of 6.35mm. This will bring the space between the scope bell and barrel to about 6.35mm. A little better.Comment

Ordered the base, but I was hoping to avoid trial and error for the rings. I guess I will start with low rings and cross my fingers. If your 40mm objective scope worked with the base and rings with a height of 6.35mm, I "should" be okay.Just got the base in the mail. Purchased from eBay.

Only place I can find it other then e-bay is CTD (& at a great price). Then again it is CTD so...
I understand in theory the purpose of a 1-piece base for a "tactical" rifle, but this rifle won't be taking any 1000 yrd shots so...other then for looks what real benefit is a one piece base for an MVP?I don't know how political I am, I don't get into all that crap....I just love freedom...

1. More forward and rearward ring mounting options.Only place I can find it other then e-bay is CTD (& at a great price). Then again it is CTD so...

2. Added rigidity and strength.
3. Front and rear rings will be more aligned with another.Comment

Mossberg MVP Varmint
Nikon Buckmasters 6-18x40
UTG 1-Piece Scope Rail
Weaver 1" Tactical Picatinny Scope Rings Medium Height
Bottom of scope bell sits exactly 7.5mm or <5/16" from barrel. The lowest 1" Weaver Tactical Rings were the Medium height (.280" or 7.11mm). I could go lower with the Burris Xtreme rings with a height of .250" or 6.35mm, but I am happy with my cheek weld.
I should also note that the UTG scope base is about 5mm higher than the stock 2-piece bases and by using any of the rings mentioned with the stock bases will achieve different results.Last edited by avcrew; 01-15-2017, 10:38 AM.Comment
