    Mossberg MVP Patrol .308

So I'm the proud owner of yet another rifle. Its in Cali jail for a few more days and I can't wait to pick it up. Bolt action will be a welcome addition. Had a few questions about using FROG LUBE, CLP or MICROLON on the first break in firings. I use CLP on 1 rifle, Froglube on the AR15/10. Never used Microlon, but have some people swear by it and its so very hard to take off too. I want my new MVP to start off right.... as I'm sure who reads this has numerous cleaning and lubrication solutions lying around gathering dust.
Just want the right stuff for my first bolt rifle.

Any scope recommendations? Looking to shoot 200-500 yds. Can't see where I hit the target past 100 yds. I do not hunt at all, just target practice. Some thing maybe in the $500-800 range. Dont want to skimp nor do I need to shoot past 1000 yds.
    I'm excited......Any thoughts

Waiting to hear your range test. As soon as funds allow, I will be buying a 308 bolt and this one is on my short list.

My buddy has one of these on his Ruger Scout and it works well up to 600 yards.

        Kewl!

Dont freak if the bolt is tight to start. Just keep shooting!

After round 75 it will losen up. By round 100 it will be smoth silk.

          Not needed...has AR Style Rail

Any optic that would use on a AR would work.

Let us know how you like it. I'm seriously considering a 308 Patrol with the medium bull with flash suppressor. The other front runner would be the Flex version. In either case I'd be buying my own scope.

Mossberg forums has a big list of all the compatible mags.

I believe for your model the PMags require a little fitting...most metal mags should work.

                Going to get flex soon.
Have been told the Mossberg Flex Shotgun gear will swap with the rifle.

I'm another recent proud owner of MVP Patrol but .223 caliber. I've been working the bolt to smooth it out. Unfortunately I have not taken it to the range but I have cleaned the barrel, bolt, and lubed the necessary areas. I just need to find a way to extend a bit the magazine release latch and add another inch for the length of pull which that part is easy.

If I had more funds I would have purchased the .308 caliber too.

To Zooduster scope brand wise since you mentioned $500-$800 range Nikon or Leupold brands with adjustable magnification, at least 44mm objective lens. But to be honest that price range would be a bit over kill.

Thanks for all the replies, my rifle is still stuck in jail. Got a delay letter to my FFL. NO clue why other than its CA. I own multiple weapons......4 just this year alone. I'm pissed and there is no help to get answers from the DOJ or my FFL. DOJ sends my call to a lone phone booth some where in the desert to a full voice mail system and the FFL isn't allowed to have my personal information. REALLY, they have it to begin with, its how it all started...

Sorry just ranting, any way thanks for all the responses. Let you know when I finally can take possession and run a few boxes ammo down wind

                          DOJ JAIL

So I finally was able to pick up my MVP .308 rifle yesterday, got the release letter exactly 30 days from the initial DROS date. I think DOJ was just playing games and holding to the 30 day period. No reason for it was given for the delay, I have multiple rifles and handguns so the backround wasnt an issue, after over 90 phone calls to various numbers, I found a lady who transferred me to some rude guy who gave me attitude from my initial hello. He told me to take a NCIS/FBI live scan to resolve my issue and wait a few months for the decision, my fingerprints are all over the place from previous work in the nuclear industry and others. He said soon It will all have to be this way, I asked what he ment but just said it would prove my backround. I told him the burden of proof is on your end not mine and I don't need to do this and could I speak to your supervisor, he transferred me to a VM that wasn't taking messages and hung up. Tried to call back but no avail.

I think they're playing games to see what they can get away with to start a national base. They pretty much give the finger to the Supreme Court and the 2ed ammendment. Who controls them.
Anyway, the rifle is fantastic and can't wait to mount the scope and bipod.

With such a high powered sniper rifle as the Mossberg 308 patrol they are alittle more carefull who gets it. Wouldnt want one to get into the wrong hands! Took me along time to get mine with my Goverment contractor/black ops past also.

Check out the Vortex PST and SFWA SS first focal plane options. Both can be had for around 800 bucks and you'll be hard pressed to find better glass with the amount of options for that price range.

Decide whether you want MOA or MRAD and get matching reticle/turrets.
