    Question about mounts...

I just purchased a new rifle today... a Winchester Model 70.

The rifle was apparently setup for some kind of old military rings, perhaps for a Unertl.

I am planning to set it up for glass, but I'm not sure what the deal is for finding a mount. If I find some mounts at Walmart (for instance), would the holes necessarily match up? I'm hoping not to have to drill and tap any more than what is already there.

    Pics below.

Facts are stubborn things; and whatever may be our wishes, our inclinations, or the dictates of our passions, they cannot alter the state of facts and evidence.

    Nice looking match rifle!

Remove the bases from the front, rear, and side of the receiver. Measure the hole spacing and buy the appropriate mount for a Post-64 action (long or short?). What appears to be the rear base is actually a clip-slot for loading stripper-clips (5 rds) during rapid fire stages of high power matches. You can just leave the bases on the barrel in place.
