Range Report: Metcalf 100yd - Browning A-Bolt II

What a beautiful day at Santa Clara County Shooting Sports Park. 72 degrees & light wind. Every shooting station was busy and with a small wait list for stations to open.

Brought out the Browning A-Bolt II .223 rifle with a beautiful Ziess 6.5-20x50MM scope with target turrets.

I was rusty and had 3 groups over 1/3" center to center. Top left and top right were #1 then #2. Whole target shot within 20 minutes, all 3 shot groups. The groups vary from each from center since I was experimenting with point of aim.

Met a nice Russian family with a Mosin shooting next to me with their grown son. Really nice people.

A friend of mine gave me his gently used Lyman Turret press reloader kit.

I'm hoping primers & powder become more available.

I've loaded .45-70 in the past with light loads for cowboy competitions, but pretty lost for starting recipes for .223.

Any insights on recipes would be appreciated, knowing final powder weights are determined by the rifle.

Thanks osis32 for the kind words. I think Brownings are fantastic rifles, and both this one back in 94. It shoots beautifully. The trigger is adjustable for pressure, length of pull, and includes a couple of different shoes for ergo comfort. The laminated stock even has a well placed palm swell.

Seriously thinking about getting a .270 X-Bolt with the tax check.

that thing doesnt kick much I imagine in .223. Ive always beena fan of the bar as well. I remember as a kid lusting after the medallion gold leaf inlaid abolts and bars. its a shame browning isnt more popular they make great firearms.

Recoil in .223 in a heavy varmint rifle like this with a break is almost nonexistent.

It's a real joy to shoot.

The Ziess Conquest 6.5-20x50mm scope is a perfect companion. The resolution and clarity is so good, the small .22 holes in paper are very clear and crisp.
