    Model 70 short action?

Anyone know the maximum loaded length in a short action Winchester Model 70 in 7-08? What say you? Thanks...

They will slightly vary depending on year of manufacture. Best way to see is make a mock-up cartridge and test and you will need to do a chamber test as well as for type of bullet and distance to the lands of the rifling.

I want to say it is Lyman that sells this kit to make dies for a custom chamber.

Basically you mix this resin stuff together and then cram it into your camber. Let it sit overnight and then send it in to them. This would be a good way to get your exact measurments. Or you could email Winchester.

Are you asking about MAGAZINE length limitations, or THROAT length to touch the lands?

SAAMI max OAL for 7-08 cartridge is 2.800", and if your M70 is factory, was designed with that in mind. It may take rounds a little longer. In my experience with M70's and jacketed bullets, you will be quite a ways from the throat with the longest round you can stuff into the mag box. Of course, check your individual rifle to be certain.
