Folks,
My new favorite bolt action is my Ruger Gunsite Scout. I took it to Angeles today for a sighting in trip, and to check some of my match loads. It is a lefty, I purchased it in November. 16.5 inch barrel, blued finish with the laminate stock.
From what I had read I expected reasonable accuracy, but nothing stellar. Was I in for a huge *** surprise. I sighted it in at 100, and was able to get my scope dialed in. Redfield Revenge, 3x9x42 with the Hunter reticle.
I sighted the scope abut 2 inches high at 100 for the crosshairs, so with each dot corresponded 200, 300, 400, and the heavy stadia line corresponded to 500 yards. Great little scope.
I followed a standard bore cleaning procedure, 5 shots clean, 10 clean, so on. I saved my thunder for load testing for last. WOW........
.
So, after the bore was allowed to cool, and cleaned thoroughly with Sweets 7.62. I fired a series of three shot groups. First group was 190gr Nosler Custom Competition, Federal Brass, 210M primer, over 39grains of Varget OAL. 2 three shot groups, .43 inches......I could not believe my eyes!!!!!!!

. See photos.
It gets better, 175 SMK, Federal Brass Virgin,210M primer, over 39grains of Varget, OAL 2.800. 3 shots .311 inches, holy ****......

.. See photos. Absolutely exceptional accuracy.
The first photo demonstrates the Nosler group, the second the 175 grain SMK group. The only negatives were with the feeding, sometimes the extractor claw would not grab the case rim. Causing some double feeds, or the bolt would not close on the case. But this became less and less a problems as the rifles round count increased.
The reason I purchased the rifle was for my all purpose hunting rifle. I have taken my SPS Tactical on hunting trips, too heavy. With the GSC from Ruger my hunting rifle is much lighter, and absolutely dead dick accurate out to 400 yards. The steel swingers out to 400 of all sizes I was able to hit with no issues. Great little rifle a real keeper. A2
