    Which muzzle brake?

I'm new to bolt actions but I just bought a Remington 5R in 308.
I'm looking for a muzzle brake and someone to thread my barrel, hopefully here in Orange county. What brakes are most people using? Anyone know anyone here that can install them?

Try Ross Schuler you can't go wrong for the $ and he will turn it down to your barrel diameter and caliber $35 last time I checked and if you dont mind the drive to the valley you can PM ar15barrels. Randal threads and times the brake while you wait.

Randall did mine. I had him fit a JP brake. he can time it also.
the JP is loud. get the Shuler brake if you want it quieter.

I had him profile a Shuler brake to my 300 Win. these brakes have to be profiled to your barrel.
I have the big 1.250 on my 300win.http://www.muzzlebrakesandmore.com/P...zle_Brakes.php

Can you give me a comparison of what that 300 win mag feels like with that brake?

other than to screw with the people shooting next to you, do you really need a brake on a 308?

It still has quite a bit of a kick to it. It will clear the benches 2 or 3 on both sides of you.
I need more practice with rifle.

I don't think you really NEED a brake for recoil, but folks who shoot a lot of long distance say it's easier to watch your own shots if you have a brake

Recoil reduction is not the ONLY reason for a muzzle brake.
If you want to spot your own impacts, they are VERY helpful.

you know what also makes it easier to spot yourself? shoot farther targets.
