Rossi Circuit Judge?

A gun store local to me has these and I am intrigued.

Anyone have one who is willing to share their opinions of it?

Seems like it would be a nice sidekick to my Lipseys Blackhawk Convertible .45 Colt/ACP

Rossi can be hit or miss on quality, and I've personally was never fond of the idea of an open firing chamber so close to my face. There is nearly always a small gap between the cylinder and the barrel where hot gasses escape and sometimes hot lead shavings to to very minor timing issues with the lock mechanism.

I believe these are modern smokeless powder guns; but back in the day when the originals were black powder, a chain reaction could set all chambers off at once if cylinder bores were not sealed well. For this legacy reason, (pardon the pun) it makes a lot of people "gun shy" for this configuration.

Remember too, you're breathing more chemicals and lead with an open chamber than a closed chamber. A revolver handgun is held farther away from the face then this rifle.

Winchester is just reissuing the 1892 lever rifle in .45LC this year.

Just something to think about.

I've had great luck with Rossi long guns - I have had 4. Sometimes the wood-to-metal fit doesn't meet higher standards, but the guns have always shot reliably and well.

I don't know if you hunt, but there has been some controversy about hunting with a Circuit Judge. Rossi provides a plastic insert with limits the gun to 3 rounds, for hunting legality. BUT IIRC CA Fish & Game (Fish & Wildlife?) says that this is too easy to remove, so it doesn't meet their (current) definition of a round limiting device. YMMV, but just in case you hunted...

I'm very interested to see how .410 loads pattern. Looks to have great potential as a rabbit gun. Anyone have any experience shooting shotshells outta one?

Rossi Circuit Judge?

I have one in black with the synthetic stock. 4 lbs and has 5 rounds in the stock for storage. Comes with a smoothbore choke and rifled choke. Rings steel with ease at 50+ yards. Fiber optic sights are good. Pic rail on top to add red dots.

Patterns funny with the slug choke, but if you put the other one on it hits on the money. I leave mine with 000 buck or pdx defenders in my home office.

Good light weight survival gun and my girl can shoot it well with the light recoil.

Edit: length of pull is really short on the tactical model, get the wooden stock if you have long arms.

Mostly .45 colt. Has a smooth double action pull so its a nice fast little shooter.

But .410 is fun too. Bird/game shot rips up milk jugs pretty nice too.

Accuracy with the .410 slugs is garbage though. .45 long with soft points makes for a decent alternative.

I've got the blacked-out Tuffy version -

Damn thing is way too short to shoulder.

I'm planning on replacing the rear stock with pistol grips -

And cutting it down to a 12" revolver -

As soon as I leave Kalifornistan in the rear view mirror......

But yeah - Best bang for the buck - Especially for smaller shooters...
