    Long range shooting central valley

Hey guys. Wondering if anyone knows of a spot to shoot past 200 out in the central valley. Sac valley changed their membership so you can't shoot the 500 yard or 1000 yard range unless your voting member and that takes 2 years and there are apparently limited spots.

Blm land or other wise would be appreciated. Thanks guys

    Matt

I go down to Tumey Hills just south of Santa Nella. Its about an hour and half from here.

San Joaquin Rifle club has a 200 yard range as well.

Also I believe you can shoot the 300 yard at Sac Valley, and you can shoot the 1000 yard while attending one of the NorCal Precision Rifle Clubs Practices.

I did. You only have access to them when there is an event that is open to the public. Or as a guest of a voting member. Or in a match. You can't go out to the silhouette range when ever you want.

Non-Voting Membership: Non-Voting Members have reduced cost access to the public ranges 7 days a week. Non-Voting Members may have access to private range facilities as a guest of a Voting Member or as part of a club match or other event open to the public. Daily Shooting fee is $5.00 for the public range

Or just shoot the matches. They are fun and you'll get better faster doing that then just plinking.

frank: Wait a minute. There are more than one wizard? Is [are?] the wizard calibrated?

If really like to do that too. That's the goal. I just figured I'd get the dope on my rifle with the 142smk load IV got before I go shoot a match.

You like shooting em? IV never been to one so I don't know what tto expect really.

I don't shoot at SacValley but I nearly only shoot matches. Email ahead of time to confirm but usually matches are casual enough that you can use calculated dope to get zeros and no one cares. After I get a windage zero on a new rifle I'll get my first actual zeros at a match.

Various practice sesssion are open to non-members. Your statement "you can't shoot the 500 yard or 1000 yard range unless your voting member" is based on incorrect information and you since corrected yourself.

Even as a voting memeber, I can't saunter up the the sil range and blast away, I need a 2nd person.

The 1K range can only be accessed by a number of individuals authorized to do so. So I can't saunter up there either with out the right person reserving it.

There's pracitce this Saturday - we have new people there all the time.

That's what I said. It says on the site that you must be accompanied by a voting member to shoot the silhouette range. I don't know any voting member I knew memebers but they have since dropped their membership due to the rules changing. I'm going off what the site says. It seems pretty clear to me. But I'm happy to hear there are practices open to the public and will check it out. Thanks

The NCPPRC guys practice this Friday on the 1K range (Range12), and have regular practices http://www.ncpprc.com/forum/phpBB3/v...hp?f=29&t=5858 and they have both paper and steel matches every month.

There is a group that practices on Range 12 every Monday (600/1K) and Tuesday (various ydges finishing at 1K). Show up at the range office at 7:45 and speak up.

Next weekend is the Folsom Club's monthly matches, shooting out to 600yds.

There's a 1,000yd range in Coalinga as well. PM me for contact info for the range master there. He could tell you the range availability.

We're extremely lucky to have Sacramento Valley Shooting Center. It's not close to many but worth the effort to get there.

That sounds great I actually stumbled on your post about the match shortly after posting this. I will definitely be getting up there to shoot a match. I really enjoyed shooting there in the past just frustrated to see a change in rules when I was getting ready to join. But I have been corrected, so thanks for the info on the match.

Whats the deal with Coalinga's range? I never knew there was another 1000 yard range in the valley.
