After a good 7k-ish of rounds through my rem 700 in 308, its time for me to rebarrel the thing. Now I am leaning towards a 6.5 (either 6.5x47 as the brass is great or maybe a 6.5 creed) but have also heard plenty of good things about all the 6mm stuff too. I am getting ready to purchase a barrel but I have no clue which way I want to go now. I will typically be shooting at steel around 800-1200 (or more depending on if I take my quad out to our spot so I dont have to walk all the way out there with heavy targets and what not).
now my only requirements are that it stays in a short action and can be used in a standard aics mag. I am not trying to kill anything but steel so energy at target is not a concern to me, however I do enjoy seeing a dust cloud. Also I do reload but I would prefer not to fireform and brass for all those fancy cartridges out there.
Sorry that this is long winded for a simple "what round should I use" but honestly I have no clue which way I should go and hope I could give as much info as I could.
