Model 721 ?

I have a chance to purchase a Remington 721 in 300 H&H from a private party What is the price range of something like this anything I should be looking out for.

Quick google search shows they're going for around $500 to $800.

If the barrel shoots good as a 300 H-H you can have a gunsmith run a 300 Weatherby reamer in and instant 300 Weatherby magnum.

Most gunsmiths who have been around for some time will have a 300 H-H reamer laying around there shop.They will use it to hog out the chamber before running in the 300 Weatherby reamer so it stays sharp longer.

I agree. It is worth more as an original Remington 721 in the H&H cartridge. Besides, who really needs a Weatherby rifle instead of an H&H chambered gun that is almost as powerful? Nothing that you shoot is likely to know the difference.

I have recently purchased a 721 in 300 H&H from a cal gunner. I paid $700. The gun is in used but good condition.
The 721 is a heavy gun but a very fine shooter
I would recommend buying it.
The 300 H&H is a good caliber.

I am now looking for a 270 in the 721 action.
Friends Dad in Montana has one and it's his main gun for everything from elk to coyotes.

I picked one up a few years back at the Reno Show (C & R eligible) for $495.00. Not a scratch on it, I think that was a pretty good price. I think $500.00 or so is a good price (but not a "friend" price) my interest would fade about $600.00.

If the rifle is the one pictured and is in very nice shape I suppose the scope, mount and sling could add a weak $75.00 to a price - the scope looks like a period correct Bushnell, maybe 3 to 9 power?

The rifle should stay in 300 H & H, no doubt. The H & H is within 100 fps of every Wby load - no practical difference. I think I'm correct that Wby rifles typically have a fairly long throat, allowing the bullet to "jump" a bit before it engages rifling and that has a lessening effect on pressure. I don't know how closely the Remington H & H is cut and doubt the switch would in anyway be unsafe using full bore Wby loads, but the net result could be not comfortably using the Wby to its full extent - and if that's the case even that 100 fps "difference" goes away.
