There are a couple of competitions with Black Powder out to 1000yds. Perhaps you just need a more challenging platform?

I actually got on paper once at 500yds!

Arced properly most calibers will go that far out. Accurately is a whole nother ball of wax. .22LR will possibly go as far as a mile and a half when at the right angle.

I think my .338 Lapua will reach that distance... if I can... I wish, but I'd sure love to give it a try!

Yeah, "accurately" is something else. .22 LR will get out there a ways, but you'll never know where. Transonic effects are a bugger.

Aren't many cartridges that are still supersonic at two klicks... certainly nothing in my battery...

However, if you start and stay subsonic, it can work. Sandy Hook used to be known for this remarkable result. Old school rules.

              Guys
Initially we will be testing at 2000 yards with my 338 Snipe-Tac 408 Chey-Tac and one of my 50 BMG's to check the intended target size out.

The guy doing the leg work was to hold a conference at The Shot Show but he got hit in a crosswalk by a lady who didn't see him breaking his jaw and several ribs.He will not be shooting a big boomer until his jaw is fixed and right now he can't even eat solid food.

In California we will initially be shooting on a private ranch 45 miles north of the Golden Gate Bridge and once we have the target dialed in we can post a chart of what is needed for those wanting to give it a try.I suspect a custom base running $80 should get you there but accuracy will be the big hurdle.

7mm/338 Lapua on up should work with heavy for caliber bullets.
A 338 pushing the 300 grain Sierra MatchKing at 2800 fps will need 90 MOA up from a 100 yard zero.
If you have a 5.5-22 Nightforce and a 30 MOA base you'll be very close.

If guys would like to give it a try we will try and set up a weekend testing session were you could shoot one or more of my rifles free of any charge as a promotional event.

I watched Skip shoot at the barrel at Palomino and he missed it by 15 feet. His second shot nailed it.

Shooting my match load through my AR50 topped with a 5.5-22 NXS (moa-moa), I can use my 1000 yard zero and just hold at the bottom cross hatch of the NP-R1 reticle to consistently hit the barrel if I do my part. Unfortunately, my ALS has an 8-32 NXS with a NP-RR1 reticle. It would be harder to figure out a hold over with it.

                        2000 Yards And Beyond

I've got a place up here on private land to stretch out to 2K. But haven't attempted it yet with my 338. Only out to 1585 so far with good results. I should have a 50dtc bolt gun finished in a year or so. Tag for later.

I'd love to try 2000 yards...hopefully this summer. I only have a 338 Lapua but I am willing to give it a shot or two. :-)
